2 barrel carb

Sorry guys I'm new to carburetors, my 72 cutlass 350 came with a factory 2 barrel on it. I was looking to replace it and was thinking about just putting a newer 2 barrel on it i was looking at the holley 2300 model, it comes in 350cfm and 500cfm, from my understanding I'd be better off with the 350 cfm model for a car that I just want to drive and enjoy. I'm not looking to build a race car, just something reliable. Only reason I'm sticking with the 2 barrel is I can get one for $200.
I would love to do a 4 barrel but a new manifold and carb starts to add up. So I'm just trying to keep my project moving with out breaking the bank.
thanks everyone

You can rebuild the stock carb for $35. A Holley 2300 will not bolt to your intake, so you'll also need to buy an adapter plate. If you think that's going to give you a big boost in HP, you are mistaken. If your current carb is running like crap, then sure, a new carb will run better, but probably not better than a properly rebuilt original. No Holley will be jetted correctly for your application. Do you have the skills and equipment to play with the jetting to get it right? Do you have a set of Holley jets, pump cams, etc of various sizes to try them? Don't fall for the "aftermarket must be better" marketing BS.

Look up Mike's Carburetor on the internet. As mentioned, you can rebuild the stock 2 barrel quickly, easily and very cheaply. The 2 barrel carb is stupid simple to rebuild with basic hand tools. The basic rebuild kit will cost you less than $30. You'll spend a little more if you have to rebuild/replace some of the choke components but not much. Definitely the smarter way to go than slapping on a generic aftermarket carb.
