Hi guys I bought a 1970 350 was rebuilt but has liked knock? Found flex plate bolts missing and flexplate oblonged.
looks clean with some silvo pistons. Wondering what it came out of.
Also can’t find crank info
The crank is probably 393654 not 398654 ? I show that as a 260, 307 or 350
yes that is correct that was a type o.
when running that number it came back as a 1974 but 74s are not a nodular crank this one has a giant N on it giving me the impression it.
Who said 1974 engines did not use nodular cranks? I was under the impression that the lighter cranks began use in 1977 along with the windowed blocks.
My 73 stock piston motor had no "N" on the crank, if it is then it doesn't say it. It did look different than the 76 350 cranks, also no "N" on either one, a 78 403 and a 83 307 crank. I have had in hand, all a more lighter grey colour than my 73 and the N crank pics I have seen.

Thank you for the clarification Fun71.
I just pick this engine up, it was rebuilt and put into a 72 delta. Looks clean but is pretty stock.
I know it’s not original to that car, I wanted to try and find out what model it came out of, it’s going to be going into my 88 cutlass supreme classic.
The block has a pad with a partial VIN stamped which will ID the year of manufacture (of the original engine, that is). Note that the heads are 1970 and you say the crank is 1974, so this may be an engine built with parts from various years.
I was only saying it was a 74 because of olds FAQ but I think it’s wrong and it’s a 1970 cause it is definitely nodular. Huge N on it.
My block tag is super faded but the last 6 are # 434103 how can I decipher this?
