1967 Cutlass 330 4bbl RH Head ID Question

Hello!

I have a 67 Cutlass Holiday Coupe 330 4bbl. I was checking the RH head to ID if it is low or high compression – I'm seeing W442294.

From all my research – the 67 heads should start with a 3 after the prefix letter, correct?

Any ideas? Thanks.

With just the W there it would be a low compression engine. High compression would have a G at the end.

Am I wrong to think the sequence should start with a 3? Looking through the service manual seems to suggest all IDs should start with 3 after prefix.

3 would be where they start for the model year. You could have a 4 on a later made car.

You are wrong. The engine unit number started at 3xxxxx and was incremented over the model year. A 4xxxxx number just means that Olds made more than 100,000 330 motors that year (which they did). And as noted above, the absence of a "G" suffix means that this is an L65 low compression 2bbl motor.
