Absolutely agree, makes the site almost unusable on my iPhone.
And nothing‘s changed on my end - or probably yours. I’ve been accessing CO via safari quite enjoyably on my same iphone 6S for years. No more.
Sure, some you can X out of, but still completely unnecessary and very unpleasant. Changes the whole dynamic of the experience and instead of checking in daily now maybe checking in a few times a week.
CO has always been such a relaxed and informative space in this whacked out social media click bait crazed world.

I noticed the ads as well. They're here but not on the Ford Trucks Enthusiast forum (another IB Automotive website). I use Google Chrome to browse on my Droid. It's annoying, but I'll keep coming to ClassicOldsmobile. Truthfully, I've found more flamers and drama on ClassicOlds than FTE. Maybe because there are more moderators there.
I have noticed an increase in ads, but haven’t had any noticeable degradation in service via Apple Safari.
Now FORA, which covers the El Camino Central, Team Chevelle & Team El Camino forums, frequently but not always, absolutely paralyzes my iPad. To the point of just Xing out & reentering, which does not guarantee an improvement. Sometimes I have a lag of 5-6 seconds, per keystroke trying to type a response. Sometimes there is just some sort of auto refresh type thing and it’s roulette as to whether I am returned or reset, especially if typing.
are you logged in or out when taking those screenshots? you appear to be logged out. if you are logged in, please long tap on the ad and copy the click through URL and paste that into this thread please.
ok, these do appear to be closeable by tapping the x at the top right. these may be a new unit, at first i thought it was a misfire but this unfortunately does look legit.
I also get the closable ads, but again two weeks ago none of these ads were present. And they absolutely diminish the value and enjoyment of this great space on the web.

These newly appearing ads are now on both Safari and my desktop. If I was logged in to CO, ads never appeared until the last couple of weeks.
x2. The ads on the right side of the screen have been around and aren't the issue. The popups at the bottom and the top are annoying and killing the vibes here.

I have never received any ads on my iPhone while viewing CO website - never. I use Safari Browser in my iPhone with uBlock Origin Lite installed; yet, I’d suggest members evaluate their Settings to ensure the appropriate Settings are configured:
As the OP stated to start this thread, why did this change?
Still very curious about that, but also took VCs advice (adding uBlock origin lite extension for safari), and of course it works like a charm. Took 2 minutes. Follow his instructions and your pop-ups on CO will be gone. Thanks VC!
But again, why did it change?

It matters not if they're default settings. What matters are the configuration parameters themselves - which some members are unaware of. In addition, uBlock Origin Lite is a separate application I'd strongly recommend. Finally, as I've stated either on this thread or a similar (recent) thread, there exists dependencies on iPhone Model & iPhone OS Version not inclusive of additional applications individuals may have installed onto their phones which can offset, change, compromise security, privacy & advertisements. Most often it's a simple matter of performing a deeper dive awareness of exactly what has been installed on the phone.
For me, it only occurs on this site. Within the last couple of weeks, something changed here. Nothing changed on my end.
Without diving into an entire diatribe regarding obfuscation, both developers & marketing advertisers employ code to obfuscate advertisements either by design or unintentional outcomes. I'm not attempting to be evasive, but marketing advertisements are a tough breed on their own.
With that said (from the length of my armchair), sometimes a simple reinstall might address/fix an issue. To that end & in particular, since it's impossible to know exactly what has been installed onto someone's phone, what has been deleted on someone's phone (inclusive of many applications)....a simple process (in this case regarding an iPhone running Safari Browser) is to delete/remove Safari Browser, then reinstall Safari Browser.
the ad partner is running some tests, so yes things did change on our end. the unexpected impacts are what we are working to address with the partner. please continue to share your feedback, i am ensuring that it is all heard internally.
