Which section of the Forum is best to post questions?

Hi guys
What will be the best section to ask technical questions about old 40s / 50s Oldsmobile?
Here in the Vintage Oldsmobiles or in the designated sections?
... just asking lol

If it specifically pertains to vintage Oldsmobile, you're most likely going to achieve a better audience in the Vintage Oldsmobiles forum; but don't hold back from creating a thread specific to your question e.g. electrical, engines, small block, etc. in the appropriate section(s). There a many knowledgeable folks who review almost all thread/topics daily.

The reality is that you can pretty much post anything anywhere. The categories are nice, and they're mostly followed, but most regular visitors to the site just click on "New Posts" at the top of the page, and that brings up a list of every forum that has a new posting in it since their last visit to the site. So if you ask a question about, say, carburertors in, say, the "upholstery" forum (there isn't really an "upholstery" forum, but you know what I mean), everyone will still see it just by clicking on New Posts.

Many times a new person to the site will ask the same question in several forums, all relevant, in the hope of reaching as many different people as possible. But the moderators generally end up just consolidating all of those threads into one, anyway. This is really the more important thing to keep in mind. Wherever you choose to post a question, only post it once. Everyone will see it, and it keeps all the comments and answers in one place.

One last comment. Your original post in this thread, asking about where to post particular questions, isn't really about vintage Oldsmobiles at all. Your question would have been more appropriately placed in the "Site Related" forum, of which there is one. But you posted it here instead, and it was still seen, and it still received answers. See what I mean?

In addition to what Jaunty brought up above Moderators will move posts or threads placed in wrong forums to correct ones. I moved this one to site help.

The only issue I see a possible problem can happen and has when a question is asked in a general forum and the answer is uniquely suited for vintage forum and the first generation cars/ engines. Usually wrong answers are caught and corrected by members here and one doesn't get bogus advice no matter how good the intensions were.....Tedd
