Gasket Under Exterior Stainless Trim?

Gasket Under Exterior Stainless Trim?
Getting ready to put the "OLDSMOBILE" ss or chrome strip on the back of the 68 Cutlass trunk lid. Is this supposed to go directly on the trunk, or is there a rubber gasket or something similar to use?

Nothing in between; it goes directly on the metal. At least that is how both of mine have been.

Put some dum-dum around each stud before you put it on the car and before you install the nuts or whatever holds it on. This keeps any water from getting in and under the strip.

Dum-dum is automotive strip caulk like 3M 08578 or equivalent. I usually pack the nuts with it and screw them on.
