did the 1970 W-30 w/air come with a 4-core radiator with two different tanks sizes ???

No, many of the full sized cars of the 1960's into 70's had the tank with the fill cap as wide as a 4 row, but the other tank a 3 row tank. Then the core itself was a 3 core. I might be able to get some pictures if it would help you to know what to look for. John

I had a bunch of photos on photobucket, but now that they're gone here's some to describe what we're trying to explain. I think the photos will make it clear, but if not let us know and we're use the photos as references to what we're describing. First, here's some pictures of a 4 row radiator out of an A body car. I don't remember if this was a 69-70 or 71-72 but it does have the fill cap at a slight angle. It looks like my camera angles were bad on the tape measure, I believe it should be 3 1/2" across where the rubber bushing/saddle fits against the radiator. John






Camera angle is bad, tank should be about 3 1/2" across. This is where the rubber saddle on the top plate or bottom bracket sits.

Here's an A-body car radiator that I believe is a 2 row.

Then back to the 4 row for your car. Here' some pictures of the heavy duty cooling 4 row setup in a 1971 Cutlass flat top wagon. This one does have the tags on it but my camera flash wasn't working. The large code on the tag is ZK. The two letter code pressed into the tanks is different, I think its CF but don't remember for sure. Note that the fill cap is at about a 45 degree angle. I'll try to get some pictures of the tag and update this thread for a reference. Let me know if there's any additional views you'd like to see. John

the first pics John posted show a fill hole slightly angled, notice in the picture of the top plate in his last post how much more of an angle the fill hole is more like 40 - 45 degrees while the older style (70 and earlier) are more like 15 - 20 degrees. looking straight on its obvious.

Steven, just to clarify. The 68-70 4 row would have the almost flat fill cap. Then the 71-72 have the steep angle, correct? I keep forgetting and just want to get it down in this thread!

Correct - I'm guessing by 71 most cars had an overflow tank and that allowed for air to have someplace to go while providing the expanding coolant and easier path to the overflow tank - just thinking out-loud.

Great info !!!! Looks like it should have the 3 1/2" tanks This is good as i will also measure my top plate saddles to compare to your pics Will be getting it from The Parts Place as they have the correct one. Thanks again---Greg
