First forum ever for HeavyOlds
This is the first forum I've ever joined. Some of you may have seen my head porting videos on YouTube. I've been playing with Oldsmobiles for 38 years. This looks like a great place to exchange information.

Welcome to the site... With 38 years of Oldsmobiling you probably have a lot of info to share yourself and most likely will fit right in with the group... What vehicles have you had or still have???

Thanks for the warm welcome
I've had a 1966 Cutlass since I was 13. Originally had the 330. Put in a 425. Broke the 10-Bolt. Broke a 12-Bolt. Broke the steel crank. Put in a 455 with home ported Edelbrock heads. Never did run right until I pulled the heads and found that two valves were out of round from factory. Best of 12.2 on street tires and no 1st gear. The TH400 has finally given up.

Thanks for the compliment. 12.4 is a decent small block time. I put slicks on and obliterated the front U-Joint. It thrashed around inside the loop and also destroyed the long tail shaft housing. I wrecked the rear bushing and possibly bent the tail shaft. Vibrates now. I have a short tail TH400 to put in and EZ EFI to install. I'm thinking of getting a 1350 Chromoly driveshaft from Summit. $250 seems like a good price. Made by Strange Engineering I believe.

Welcome to a best Olds site, love your "66. Sounds like you drove her hard, my '65 was beat on too, twisted both axle's in the pig. Question on no first gear in trans, was that better for racing?

At some point it stopped going into first gear and it hooked up better than ever on those TA Drag Radials and I got a record low 12.2. Acted like a power-glide. After I put the slicks on, broke the tail shaft housing and put it back together, it goes into first gear now. Must have rattled something loose. I will replace my tranny and driveshaft before I attempt the slicks again.

Oddly enough i lost 2nd gear in my th350 and most thought it was the common sprag failure. Turns out it was a pump sealing ring. Which explains why it was intermitent . If it hit a dead spot no 2nd gear if the ring turned and sealed voila 2nd gear came back. I currently have a th400 im building for future use.
Also the reason the pump ring broke was i had too much space between the drive shaft yoke end and the tail housing end. There was too much movement imo and all the trans guys i have talked to agree.
Sounds like an almost similar issue.

Beautiful launch! No wrath and roll, just a nice little squat and got down to binness!
That starter looks like he's under 25 yo. What did he think of your romper stomper? Since he probably doesn't see much Olds school out there... if it weren't for Mustangs I swear the strips around here would have to shut down.

I was looking at ET vs trap speed and thinking WTF, then I remembered you're in Canada and trap speeds are in KM. Still some hella quick cars.
That 65 GTO is nasty. The 66 Chevelle is borderline violent.
Thanks! 👍🤘🤙
