Just a FYI on Barrett - Jackson 2017 // Friday 442's
I think I might know the gentleman driving LOT # 1044 up on the stage about 100 cars from now ... 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 , W - 30 , 4spd , Yellow .
Really nice , perhaps too nice to drive , fresh out of every nut and bolt frame off body restoration ...
Additionally , LOT # 1020 , is a Red 1970 442 Convert , which was sold @ B - J in 2913 .
LOT # 1066 is a 1966 , Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 Convert , L - 78 / L - 69 3x2 , Blue on Blue car done by Thornton's .
1110 , and 1118 , are both a 1970 and 1971 , 422 Converts , in Black and Red ...
To keep from too much brain damage , I always stream the coverage on my laptop , with TV Silent in the background ... Have a nice Friday .. JT

According to the BJ website, the former Gandolfini 1972 "442" convertible that is allegedly one of the 15 built that year with the three speed manual trans and RPO W39 Hurst three speed floor shifter sold for nearly $62K, despite the fact that it DOES NOT HAVE A CLUTCH PEDAL!

It sold at a Mecum auction in 2011 for $37,500. They still have the pics up there and there is a closeup of the console shifter. Never seen one of these....not sure I like it

Sunfire yellow with white top and stripes! I think it looks great.... sure its got some cheesiness to it but for the last purchase of 37.5 you get a pretty darn good car. You can pick it a part in a bunch of areas. I don't mind it at all (expect the interior) I do mind that they seem to be claiming its something its not.

What is that old saying, "a fool and his money are soon parted". I think it is an attractive car but it sure is not what it is represented to be and no where close to a $62,000 car. It is pretty cool looking but I don't believe the factory ever made a two tone leather wrapped steering wheel. I wonder what that console came out of.

The Indymatic is a really crappy shifter designed to make an AT look like a manual to the uninitiated. It's simply a chrome stick on a pivot. There aren't even any gear detents, so you are solely relying on the spring-loaded detent roller in the trans to hold the car in Park. Just don't park on a hill...

It's a stock 1970-72 MT console with the Indymatic AT shifter and some sort of boot. I don't know what that indicator or plate is behind the shifter, but obviously it isn't factory.

We all hacked into the doors in the 70s. The kick panels are actually a better location. Slamming the doors can damage the speakers. Plus, window mechanisms restrict the size of the speaker magnets, especially on the 1969-up cars without vent windows.

Yeah Joe but kick panel speakers like those pictured looked like S--t. They stick out to far only a nerd would use them.

I am saying it is okay to do kick panel with a different style cover. Those are so far out of the panel they look like rear deck type. They made some deck speakers the are more flush than those.

A bit of a topic veer here, but I didn't think this observation really rated its own thread ... anybody else think Steve Magnante is losing it? I just heard him refer to the automatic transmission in a 326 Firebird as a "Powerglide". Awhile ago he described the diff in a Buick Stage 1 as a "Type O". There have been other lapses too -- the other night he claimed you could get an L-79 engine in a '67 Nova (you couldn't) and that the first V-8 to be offered in a Chevy II was in 1965 (it was '64).
It's one thing to listen to the other clowns say things like "When the top goes down, the price goes up" for the umpteenth time or talk about how expensive it is to rechrome '50s cars or hear about how the GTO Judge was named after the Sammy Davis character on Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In every goddam time one crosses the block -- I'm used to the drone of that nonsense and I just tune it out. But I actually listen to what Magnante has to say because I was under the impression he knows his *****, so I found these little slip-ups kind of depressing.

I hear that stuff plenty. Of course I mostly notice it when they are speaking about an Oldsmobile. Most of the time I just take it we usually know more about the cars we are passionate about then they can. Can't know everything about all cars. But some of the basics do drive me nuts.

Hey! I have the same speakers in mine (mine are black though). As the previous posting stated, we 'vert owners are somewhat limited in where we can put our speakers. I kept the original kick panels and swap them back in with about 5 minutes work if needed.
At least I admit that mine aren't stock.

i admit i was at a loss as to where to put speakers in my 70 c/s vert.interior is in near perfect shape and i didnt want to cut into anything, also dont like the look of kick panels with speaker housings.decided on a pair of rockford/fosgate 6x9 punch speakers with carpeted speaker enclosures that were made for them, put them on the floor behind the buckets. they dont take up much room ,sound unbelivable, and if i need to they have quick disconnects and i can put them in the trunk, you wouldnt know they were there unless you were getting into the back seat.

Sorry that we missed you. Was confident that we would see you at the Pavillions.

Hi Chris,I know this wouldn't work for everyone but it works for me. Speaker systems are heavy enough that they don't move around and they sound fantastic. If someone were in the back seat they can get they're feet around them, but it's usually just me and the wife.
