Thanks Troy. I was as worried about the car ending up in the right place as I was about the money. Now I don't have to worry about either one.
Really it felt like my wife was in labor for 7 days. Tell your wife that and she'll get a kick out of it. Looking forward to seeing your car come together.

I've owned an LSS before. I really liked that car. It rode so well. Ended up selling it to my brother in law for what I paid for it and it ran for many years after without problems. If I had to pick one Olds for myself that brings back personal memories it would be my brother's black 1994 2 door CS with the 3.1. The 3.4's DOHC's sucked. Everyone had problems with them.

Believe it or not, my wife got it more right than I did and she knows really nothing about these cars and the market. Her guess was $40k-$42k.
Regarding the pricing however, I'm not saying who...but I had a really respected member here who said privately they would be surprised if it went under $60k. And they are really familiar with the W cars. So that value is exactly what someone has in their mind and bank account for it.
When I initially was throwing around the "Buy it Now" on it, I was thinking $44230. With as close as the bids got to that, I'm relatively sure that it would have sold that way.
But, I have no regrets. We have a trip to FL in November with my mother in law and we're going to have the kids surprise her with some cards with a bonus. She is going to be speechless.
Well, let's see; purchased in California new, same family ownership until the recent sale, piles and piles of original paperwork, including build card, sales contract, dealer service work receipts, window sticker, (with the factory optional trailer hitch option!) loaded with options.
Car will be shown this year in our Barn Finds & Hidden Gems area right beside the '70 442, then it goes directly to Mark Sekula and the Magnum Restorations, Inc, crew in LaSalle, IL. where it will return to MCACN in 2017 as one of our Official Unveiling cars. Mark is the guy that restored the beautiful 1972 440+6 sunroof Roadrunner/GTX that was unveiled last year at MCACN and is on the cover of several magazines.
The history and story of Jeff's acquisition is truly what we all dream of. You may recognize the name, as Jeff is the owner of the REAL 1970 Olds Indy 500 Official Pace Car. (the real-real one!)
Coincidentally, the car was sitting in a garage for many years just a few miles from my sons home in Traverse City, MI.
Oh..and let's not forget another unveiling which will be taking place at MCACN this year.
Scott Tedro and the MASCAR crew are hard at work on a really cool black on black 1970 442 W-30 4-speed that will be unveiled in their much expanded display, Saturday morning, November 19.
Eric's Starfire 4 speed Turbo will be there as mentioned prior, and we will have a Survivor '71 W-30 Hardtop in for Vintage Certification by Steve Shaugger and his team.
This is NOT your typical car show, it is a must attend event for Muscle Car Enthusiasts.
Back to the 442. I would love to know the history/artist of the Mural on the trunk lid. I wonder how hard it would be to track down who did it. If it were my car and I was restoring it, I would swap out the trunk lid and hang that one on the wall. It is just so dang hard to find an early 70 trunk lid to swap it out with.

I'm not sure who did that. I'd have to ask my mother in law and find out if she knows.
The inside of that trunk lid is in great shape. How bright the paint is in there is just amazing. The labels are great too. There are parts of this car that are in better shape than something that is 10 years old, let alone almost 50.
By the way, the sticker with the nice little warning to anyone who messes with the car is going to the new owner. A little blunt in the language, but I like the overall effect.

Yeah, maybe I could hang onto it and get the registration from the W-30 transferred over with the "FAST" plate. That's my kind of comedy right there... Could get a custom wrap on the car and make it look like a 2 door.
My neighbor has asked me numerous times if I was going to hop in the car and go cruise the nursing homes to look for grandmas. Oh well, cool car anyway!

I appreciate that comment and Eric's too. I know there is probably a following of people that like it, and also a group of people that think it shouldn't be there. Understandable either way. But it definitely is unique and I bet it matches the personality of why many guys loved these W cars.
I talked to the new owner on the phone last night for over an hour. On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the lowest, I'm at a 0 for how worried I am about the future of this car. They are really into it and it has helped put both my wife and myself at ease.
One other thing I wanted to mention (for those interested in the items I used on the car...) is the paint I had ordered for the wheels. It was through AutomotiveTouchup.com. I placed the order shortly before the huge storm that dumped so much rain this summer in Louisiana. My two cans arrived faster than promised and matched up great. So 5 stars for them. Great job. I imagine this Rallye Red color is especially hard to get right.
It is a good thing to be happy with the new owner. I will not post what car but most here know the long history I had with a car I sold a couple years back. I am still glad I sold it but I do not like the new owner of that car at all. He is an idiot in my opinion. That is the only part I don't like about selling that car.

That would be tough to take, but with you....you never know because you could end up owning the same car again someday. I know you have your eyes on more cars than the average guy.
Got the cashier's check to the bank over lunch. Title notarized for our signatures there too. Also the wife and I had lunch at Wendy's. Yes, we don't get out much...
Transport company just called and confirmed Fri appt and will call again tomorrow with more detail. I'm pretty excited to see them roll in. We have plenty of room and we are on a corner lot, so very easy in/out for them.
Gathering everything up for the car at lunch today. Parts boxed up and ready to be put in the trunk. Still need to wrap a few things like the tailpipes and master cylinder. Weather still looking great for tomorrow. No rain and 84.
Just wanted to post a pic of this paint from the repair job. It seems about half full. New owner says he wants it, although I make no guarantees on it. Seal seems good and it was kept in a climate controlled environment, so who knows...
If it was good, would be neat even to paint something else with it to match the car, like a sign or an old piece of metal furniture or something.
The monster left this AM in an enclosed trailer. The guy who did the pickup was really nice and he spent a little while showing me pictures of cars he had transported before. He also wanted to hear some of the history of this car. No rain, but it was cloudy. On its way now!!!
I felt a big responsibility to get "Pap-Pap's car" right and I'm glad I tried my best because when it left today, I had no regrets on the efforts at all. Was even cleaning the driver's side headlight bezel screws with metal polish right before the car left. The MCACN show is the absolute pinnacle and I just can't wait to see the car there.
I'd like to thank my family for letting me spend so much time in the garage. Oh, and don't worry...I lost the beard. This pic is about a year old.
Congrats on the sale. That's a nice chunk of change, and you earned every penny of it. Also, kudos to you for the no reserve auction. That takes some cajones and is nerve racking, but the right way to auction a car.
Must be tough to let go of a semi-family heirloom, but you certainly did it with respect and had fun doing it. Thanks for sharing the journey with all of us

Thank you both. It would be a lot tougher to let it go if it was something he used in the last decade or even the decade before that. Most of my wife's memories of the car were from walking past it in the garage. However, I'm probably making it sound easier to let it go than what it is. My wife was alone yesterday with it for about 10 minutes in the garage. I didn't go in because I figured she would want time alone. But when she came in she definitely didn't look like she was crying. So she did well with it too. She is looking at all of the positives also. One of her complaints has been how she hardly ever gets to see me since I've spent so much time in the garage.
I'm of the belief that the car put me on this path for a reason. I've met some really great people along the way and I'm normally a very private and quiet person. It has shown me that I can get out of my comfort zone and do some really cool things.
I've gathered a wealth of information from ClassicOldsmobile and I'm just so glad this site exists. Members who posted help on this car have a small piece in it. So when you see pictures of it or see it in person someday, you can know that all of your typing and advice was for a really good reason.
Every morning I sit with my 13 y/o daughter outside to wait for the bus. This morning we were discussing the car and how it went on its way Friday. She was concerned that I was going to miss it.
I thought it was the perfect time to mention about how this car was the illustration of being a selfless person. And in mentioning that, the conversation continued on the topic for about five minutes until the bus showed up.
She is at a really impressionable age and understanding what actually went on here is an important part of the process. I told her that the world continues to be a good place because of people doing good things, even if they aren't the easiest sometimes.
I can see it in her eyes that she plans on doing some of the same someday and that is one of the best feelings you can have as a parent. I'm a proud dad.
The new owner of the car is Stefano. It really couldn't have worked out any better and I'm certain I've been the beneficiary of a new friendship as well. I'm excited to see the car continue on its journey and I'm sure looking forward to seeing it again at the MCACN show.
To give you an idea of what he is all about, he actually called me a while before the auction and asked if I minded if he bid on the car. I was in shock. Who does that??? A respectful man for sure.
My wife and I are thrilled it went to a perfect home with appreciation of the history of the car, and also a W-machines fanatic. Coolest/Koolest transaction ever! Thanks again Stefano!

Talked to Eric some this past week. Was nice to talk about something besides the W-30 for once, because I felt I was always talking about it with questions to him and felt bad about that. But the conversation was still 99% Oldsmobiles!
