Hello,
I wanted to see if you could help me answer some questions. I bought a edelbrock 1406 600 CFM to install on my Olds 64 394 engine, but when I look at the gasket that came with the carb, it is different than the gasket I have currently for the 4GC. I called edelbrock tech support and they told me I need an adapter to make it work. Yet when I look at the posts and pictures you posted, I can clearly see that it bolts right on. Obviously the TV road and the linkage need to be adapted.
I was wondering if the edelbrock you bought is the 1406 and also what gasket did you use between the manifold and the carb.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. My 4 GC is toasted and I have rebuilt it, but still runs bad. I just want out of it, but now I am not sure I can install the edelbrock. I am hoping the tech I talked to is wrong.

The E-brock bolts right on. Look carefully at the base of the carb and the intake to be sure that all ports are covered and sealed, however. Sometimes you will need a thin plate just to seal the carb to the intake, often you will not. I'm sure this "tech" has never heard of a 4GC and assumes you are talking about a Quadrajet.

Thank you all so much for your help. The gasket i have today is the divided type as attached in the first picture. It is quite thick so it helps with the heat. I also have the square type that came with the new carb, but i dont think i will use it. It is quite thin.

Once again, thanks for all your help. This is where am at on the install so far.
I bought the gasket insulator as shown in picture 1, installed the carburetor and the banjo fuel line and it is now connected to my fuel pump. Before I attempt to build the bracket for the bell crank, I want to make sure the car runs and idles well with the carburetor.
I have several questions.
1. Could i use the same + wire that goes to the distributor to power the electric choke. Does any one have any recommendation on a wire to tap into or the best way to do this. The original choke was heat driven
2. I have something that looks like a 1960s version of a PCV valve that hooks to the passenger side valve cover and it has a small vacuum line that was connected to the 4GC carb. It also has a rubber fitting that connects to a pipe that feeds back into the air cleaner. I am triying to figure out where should i connect the vacuum line in the Edelbrock. They have a huge port in the middle front, but the instructions state is for PCV systems. I am just not sure if what i have is a PCV system or just a simple breather
3. Does anyone know if the carburetors are pre-tuned or should i expect to have to adjust the idle mixture screws and the choke setting

Be VERY careful when rigging up the transmission (TV) linkage to that edelbrock.
The E-Brock must move the linkage the exact same distance that th 4 GC did. From idle to wide open throttle. Or your slim-jim will not shift properly .
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THE CAR WITH THE TV LINKAGE DISCONNECTED.
Transmission failure may ensue.
