Apparently there were a handful of 72 Supreme Coupes with X engine code - the W-30 was available in the H/O. You can probably count them on the fingers of one hand.

I'll also point out that the tags in that ebay ad are the 1967-earlier tags that go on the door post.

It looks like he can also do the stamping so I think he has a complete setup for this. He asks for verification of the damaged tag being replaced. Would a poorly taken picture with altered numbers be good enough or should you remove the original and restamp it yourself then send it to him. What about the star style stainless rivets (available at the Nats for 10 bucks each) to reattach to the front door frame. How do you get the ownership VIN number changed to match a new tag in the systen.
Just a few questions as I have imported into Canada and had them question title and VIN on a few cars.

What's next?

They are selling the rivets for vin tags and cowl tags now too. Even found a company that makes new cowl tags and the tool for the cowl rivets. They say it's not illegal to change the cowl tag.

It's not, at least not under federal law. Some states may have laws that differ. In any case, the cowl tag has no VIN data, so it isn't a "legal" tag for title purposes.

VIN tags and components to replace or change VINs have been reproduced and available for a long time. Both the GM style shown here as well as the later styles.

Other makes such as Ford and Mopar are under license by the respective MFGs.

Wow and thats in Lubbock, Tx. My home town, i think i know this guy Billc, very eccentric guy. Used to be a pretty big time Chevy guy there with some rare stuff. I always heard he had aquired the correct stamps for stamping at least Chevy blocks, maybe others from a "friend" from the factory. He had a salvage yard with mostly Tri Five Chevys, 69-70 Chevelle/El Camino, etc. but sold it all. Supposedly someone offered a lower price on a 57 Chevy, so he took a big pipe, bashed in both A pillars, then told him he would accept the offer. I actually saw him make a customer wait at one end of his shop, then he held up the shifter the customer wanted from the other end of the shop, gave him a price and said take it or leave it, never let the customer come close to it. The customer walked. Sorry to chime in like this, but i know who this is, 99% its him. Dosent surprise me.
