Thanks Joe. Cool pic. After seeing the look of the Custom Interior option vs the one I have, I'm not sure I would have paid for the upgrade myself. I like the metal trim panel on the door where the armrest and door release handle are. The seats do look a little better in your pic, but I'm not sure I would lean in that direction just due to that.
Well, my new technique is to leave the radio on and when it shuts off when I turn the key, then I know the key is actually in the off position, which is straight up and down.
Yes, the OFF position is always straight up and down. Makes it easy to remember.

True, but I am doing the radio on/off thing just to make sure I have it right. I don't want another dead battery.
Going to pick up my plate next week for this and try to get some miles on it. My father in law said all the car needed was an exhaust and my mother in law had that put on a few months ago. So it's time to see what this car feels like.
Is the recommended tire pressure in the owners manual? I haven't looked yet, but know it has been repainted so any decal on the door got sprayed also I bet.
Should be, but I can't say that I've actually seen the particular manual.

Thanks. Every time we get a new vehicle, I read the thing the first day. I like reading those a lot. I might not use every option in the car, but I always find out something I didn't know about and the salesperson didn't mention.

Keep in mind that those pressures are for the original bias-ply tires, and are usually low for softer ride. Modern radials want to be in the 32-35 psi range. I seem to recall that your car has radials.
Agreed. My 88 specifies about 24psi, if I recall, but I use my "standard" American car pressures of 28 front / 30 rear on it and it rides and handles much better.
The beauty of the radial-ply tire is that it is soft up-and-down, while being relatively rigid side-to-side.

Good point. So how do I know what to run on this and the W-30 since they are radials? Do you add a certain percentage for radials or just always go for the 32-35? That's what most of my new cars have needed over the years.

We probably cross-posted, but I've always liked 28 front / 30 rear for most American cars, and used that as a starting point to then adjust up or down depending on whether it felt harsh or soft, or whether the tires wore improperly.

Well from the production numbers I have seen for 1963, that De Luxe must have been an easy upsell. At only $2592 base price De Luxe vs the $2457 of the normal 4 door, that was an easy choice. Around 5% more got you all sorts of good options. Plus, the production numbers tell the story at around 9000 of the normal sedan vs over 29000 of the De Luxe.

Yes, but per the page I posted from the dealer brochure, there was a custom interior option only available on the F-85 Deluxe four door, which was the question. His car does not have that option.
So are there FIVE distinct positions or FOUR? Is it ACC-LOCK-OFF-RUN-START or is it ACC-(LOCK OFF)-RUN-START? My 62 F-85 (which also is NOT a 63 being discussed here, but is in the same 61-63 family) only has four positions of the ignition switch: left, center, right, and spring right. By the way, I just went and checked. I can remove the key in the ACC postion with some difficulty. I cannot remove it in RUN. The key is not worn, as I cut a new one myself, but the lock tumblers may be.
I wonder if the key lock in Tk's picis a one year only thing? It is exactly like all the early '60s Chevy's that my family had over the years. No '63 Olds ever used a lock like that
I could be wrong but I don't think there were build sheets or broadcast cars in 63. At least I never heard of one in the 62-63 Jetfire world.

Well, I still gave it my best shot. Figured if there ever was one in a car this old then this car might be a candidate for it. Plus I thought it might be good to have for the future owner, because not everyone can bend down and turn a wrench to look for these things. But, it wasn't to be...did find some little details like the carpet tag and a tag under the rear seat. Cleaned the trunk out too...Photos are here:
65 is ACC-OFF-START. Ive always thought LOCK was an actual position like old Chevys. I never thought it could be LOCK OFF, which makes sense.
On a Chevy if you turned the key from run back to off and removed the key you could restart the car without the key. If you turned the key to lock then you need the key.
I could be interested, had one in the family when new back in the day and always liked them. I started the Blue & Gray Chapter of OCA and have had nearly 20 vintage Olds but never had one of these... it would have been better if still in PA though as I'm only 5 mi N of the NY-PA border!

Well thanks holidaysedan. You're first on the list then. Let me know what additional pictures you want and I can get them for you and post them here. I will get you pictures of the worst spots of rust. I had a look under the car today and it does look good. Everything greased up like crazy. Gas tank needs further inspection. There was a bit of fuel residue on the top left front. But someone here told me that it could be repaired.
After I get you the additional pictures you want, we can talk price. I just did the out of state title work this week, so it will take a few weeks anyway for the title to come in the mail.
I also plan on detailing the car inside and out and getting some good pictures of that.
I should also say that there is no fuel dripping from that spot onto the concrete floor. Transmission does leak a little, so seals and/or pan gasket would need addressed. But all gears work fine.
Took pictures of various items, including the worst areas for the rust. Fuel pump has been replaced recently and the original is in the box and there was also another box in the trunk.
Forgive me for taking so many pics, but I just wanted to give you a good idea of how it is. I did open the doors and looked underneath them. No rust at all. I can take pics if needed. Also, I do have the trim piece that is missing in the pic of the right rear. It was under the driver's seat.
Those pics are in walk around order, with the driver's front first. Then driver's rear, pass rear, pass front. You probably know that though, but just wanted to point out in case not clear.
Doesn't look too bad rust-wise, particularly for a 63. Important areas: springs where they attach to floor pan sheet metal, trunk extensions, cabin & trunk floor, rockers, doglegs etc, sometimes whats visible on outside is like the iceberg principle, don't know until you take the fenders &c off. Be much better if still in PA where I could take a look at it in person!
We did have back in the '80s a 1961 Buick Special with their version of the 215, ran like a Swiss watch! Cute little aluminum engine, not a huge lot of torque, however being that the F-85/Special/Tempest bodies were just a stretch of the Corvair body, they were light!
