Does anyone know how to change the ignition key without having such a hard time? Bought ignition and all other lock cylinders and was wondering what's the way to do it since I'm sure some of y'all have done it
Thank you for replying to
my post was hoping someone would help, should any locksmith have it? Still haven't got to it due to me buying a house so I have went forward but I think I'm going to try to install it and see if my car even cranks haven't even tried to start this baby
I just verified my instructions against my car and I simplified them too much.
You have to remove the small chrome escutcheon from the center of the bezel in order to see the release hole. There are specific tools to do that, but you can use anything that will span two of the holes (large washer, extra-wide screwdriver, paint scraper, coin, etc.). You can even use a small screwdriver and hammer and tap it around anti-clockwise. It usually isn't very tight.
I have attached 2 pix that show a switch with and without the ring. The ring is what holds the switch to the dash.
After you remove the ring, you can easily remove the switch from the back and take it to the locksmith to swap the cylinder.
Installation is the reverse.
Good luck.
