65 Starfire temp gauge

I m a bit concerned about my starfire not having temp gauge.
Looks like there is some sort of light which comes on if the engine gets to hot.
Since i live in the tropics where winter is a week long its a bit of a concern for me.
Yes I know the car has survived 60yrs without anything but the stock overheating light.
What Im considering is a alarm where I can set the temp.
Being small I can hide it under the dash and keep the interior neat.

Any feed back on this idea appreciated.

Yes, lie down until this idea passes.

Your car has survived for 60 years with just an idiot light, and it will go another 60 the same way with no problem.

I've never heard of a temp gauge that also has an alarm. For one thing, what would you set it at? How would that be any different from a light that goes on when the temperature gets "too" high, which is what you have now?

There's a reason that service manuals don't list engine operating temperatures as part of the specifications. They do list what temperature value thermostat the car should have, but that's not the same thing.

Don't create a problem for yourself where there isn't one.

Don't fall down the temperature gauge rabbit hole.

Installing a temperature activated alarm under the dash is different than just installing an aftermarket gauge. Do you already have aftermarket gauges? What about an electric fan?

Installing an aftermarket gauge would obviously make your Oldsmobile non-concours. You could install an alarm under the dash inconspicuously; but as mentioned, what temperature would you set it at?

CRC ThermoCure is an excellent flush. If the plan is to run water through the radiator while it is out, it is ineffective. At a minimum confirm that the factory light works.

I use this product in all my cars.
Since I live in a hot climate there is no need for an antifreeze.
All I need really is a corrosion inhibitor.
The product is made in Nevada.

You can get a flush kit like this at any auto parts store. It lets you flush a radiator with a garden hose. I've used it before on all of my jalopies. Just make sure you refill the coolant system with distilled water when you're done.
