Almost got it all back together...

 

I repaired my convertible top. Was a pretty easy fix. I could have used black duct tape, but like the old school look of the traditional gray.

I've told myself that I'm going to not worry so much & use my car more. Don't be careless with it but don't be fanatical either. Last night going to a supermarket with a huge parking lot late at night when the store is the only one open in the shopping center. Take the 442 with the intention of parking it far away from any other car or shopping carts. Get there & the lot is maybe a quarter full. Driving down an aisle and some ******* almost t-bones me because he's weaving through parked cars to cut across the aisles.
Cars were only taking up maybe the 1st 7-8 spots in each row. If he went farther back he could have just driven across an open lot and not be weaving in & out. People are dicks.

 

Hell,that probably only cost you a couple points at the local Concourse, well done.... Tedd

 

I reworked the rocker moldings so they don't fall off this weekend going to a show.Not perfect but about the best I can do without better more original type fasteners / clips.

I then addressed the rattle that has been driving me nuts all summer.It's a tinny spring sound and only happens on rough roads like the mile and a half I travel to get to the pavement from my house. I can't duplicate it by shaking bouncing the car while stopped. I spent over a hour on it with no luck. I give up! If it gets worse I'll try again. Car show Saturday and Sunday ..... Tedd

 

If you used black Gorilla tape nobody would even notice.

I would trade you guys 5 weeks of 95+ degree weather for some rain. At least you can work in the garage when its raining. Been re-doing the exhaust system on my 64 Cutlass since I wiped it out when I lost a driveshaft. Start at 5 in the AM usually 90 by 10 AM, can only get a few hours in before the sweat is too much. Supposed to be mid 80's by next week. Let's hope so. Between the fires, smoke and heat, all we need is an earthquake and Northern California will live up to it's nickname, the "Shake and Bake" state. Be Well.

 

Actually I'm in Florida.We get both 95+ Heat and Rain by the hour in the summer.

 

We had a high of 76 degrees and rain today in the DFW area of Texas. Both of those are something we have not had in a while. The high actually set a record for the lowest high on this day. It was the coolest is has been since 1906. We are way behind on rainfall for the year.

Drove 70 miles to the drag strip, participated, and then drove 70 miles back with no issues whatsoever (other than the expected lousy mileage).

That's what I did to my Oldsmobile today.

 

 

Agreed! If that was what I did today I would have considered it one of the best days of my life.

 

It definitely was one of my more memorable moments since owning this car for 40 years, and there have been plenty of moments.

Best out of three runs was a 13.2 at 99 mph. It will get better.

Other than oiling issues, I actually don't mind degreasing and then detailing the engine compartment. To me, it truly says how much you love your car, regardless of how perfect it may be. At least its clean.
'74 block, '70 polished stock Nod Toro crank, '70 Ported E-heads, Comp XE 284, and to slow it down a stock '70 W-455 Olds intake.

 

Been working the last few weeks rebuilding the driveshaft and exhaust system on my 64 Cutlass after a front universal joint failure (brand new). As I had the car up in the air to work on the exhaust, I figured I would give everything the once over since this was a new build with only 70 miles on it. I know as we work on projects we get side tracked, pulled away and usually have about 10 irons in the fire. I know that as I go through a rebuild, when I install a piece or part , I try to make sure I complete it all the way so as not to forget anything, but usually do. Going through the mecanical's as I finished up the exhaust I found, Loose motor mount bolts, loose lug nuts, bad wiring connection at starter, and a pinched gas vent line. I am very meticulous on my builds, but I too get side tracked. To all of us working on projects or just getting ready for a weekend cruise, please take the time to give your vehicle the once over. I was amazed at the loose lug nuts on my Hurst wheels, this one could have been a big problem. I have now torqued to specs and will follow up before I drive, every time! Happy Wrenching.

That could have been a major disaster if it came apart at speed.
Did the cir clip pop out? It almost looks as if the yoke is bent.

 

Thanks, all good. Luckily I was only going about 30 when she came apart . Figured I lost the bearing cap first and then she came undone on acceleration. A local garage did the first install as my press was at a friends. I took the whole unit to my local driveshaft shop. He said it lost a clip probably and that possibly was missing or had a roller bearing pinched when the pressed it on. He checked everything, had to have a new driveshaft made and had him install the universals and balance. Looks like I'm good to go, ran it while it was on jack stands and seems perfect. Kinda glad this happened so I could check out the rest of the car.

 

Pulled the gas tank and master cylinder on the '56. Tank cleaned up and painted, Tank had not had gas in it in a long time, thought best to check it out. Master cylinder soak in parts cleaner, bore looks pit free, may just need rebuild kit. Luckily
it's manual brakes and can fix myself.

 

Completed the interior and took her out for a little ride for the first time since I have it!

 

Looking very nice. Two tone exterior paint scheme is really attractive and accents great lines on the body. Great lighting and composition on your photos.

Today I swapped out the right lower tailight lens on my 72 Cutlass Supreme..bought the replacent from Nick (442crzy)(and great to deal with BTW) just.had to give it a new coat of paint.
