Muncie 4 Speed Reverse Light Switch - specific to car or trans?

I have a 68 Cutlass that was an auto-->manual swap before I got it. I have the trans out now, and it doesn't have a reverse light switch on it. Are the reverse light switches specific to the trans, or to the car? Or in other words, do I buy a reverse light switch kit for a '68 Cutlass, or for whatever year the trans was built (need to confirm this).

Thanks.

Back-up light switch is specific to Muncie four speeds not car model. there is a bracket that bolts to the side cover, a switch that bolts to the bracket and a rod that attaches from the switch to the reverse shifter arm on the transmission. Then you need the wiring harness from inside the car to the switch. I think these parts are available from aftermarket suppliers.

I replaced my backup lights wiring and switch on my 66 Cutlass this spring. Lectric Limited has everything you need to upgrade your Muncie 4 speed setup. Well made stuff and excellent customer service. Check out their web site.

Searched their website and could not find this setup for a Muncie. The only one listed is for a column shifted automatic.

Since these switches are common with Chevy, EVERYONE sells repros.

Thanks for the info.

In the picture of the trans above, what is the plug/switch right under where the lead shift linkage mounts to the trans?

The pigtail coming off the switch. The wires are just coiled up.

I'm looking at the left-most shifter linkage - just under it is what looks like a hex w/ a plug sticking out from the bottom of it. Not the reverse light switch, which is near the middle shift linkage.

Ah, this trans must have been from a car with Transmission Controlled Spark.
