I have a 72 Delta 88, 350 2bbl. I am looking for a distributor vacuum advance and don't seem to be able to find one that matches the diagram in the manual exactly. The ones I have found don't have the slot for the arm to slide that's shown in the pict below. They all have a circle that the arm fits into, 4bbl I believe.
The diagram you are looking at is on the carburetor and is called the "choke pull off", the distributor vacuum advance is on the base of the distributor.
Summit Racing....Jegs etc...sell adjustable canisters if you're ever interested in those. Same overall dimensions just offers you adjustment in the travel versus the stock unit which only allows a fixed preset advance.
Either way, if you need a new one I recommend hooking it up to a straight manifold vacuum source. A nipple off the intake or one of the nipples at the lowest portion of the carb.
Make sure you set your base timing first without the vac can hooked up and all open vac lines/nipples blocked off. Verify you do not have any vacuum leaks.
Don't forget to inspect the centrifugal advance under the distributor rotor and the rest of the ignition system, (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, point set)
