Can't get pulleys to line up???
HI Folks,
Just putting together a fresh engine with many parts obtained from Mark R. Trying to move this along but now at a road block with respect to crank and water pump pulleys. Because I am using an ATI Super Dampner, my pulleys will not line up properly. I have tried using two different water pump lengths and several different crank & water pump pulleys. I can't seem to get things to line up properly. Any suggestions? Others out there must be using the same dampner as me, if so, what pulleys are you using and where can I get them please?
Thanks in advance for your assistance!

I would call BTR, www.BTRperformance.com and ask them.

I called BTR and was advised that if I bought the dampner from BTR originally, I would not have this problem as everything would line up as stock.
The motor/block came from one source, the dampner from another and the various pulleys came out of a box in my shed with two different lengths of water pumps.
I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out what the next move is?

I should add the part number of the damper...it is ATI 918480. Here are the specs from the Summit website....

Note that Olds standardized the location of each belt centerline from the front face of the block. This diagram shows where the centerline of each pulley should be relative to the front face of the block. Yes, there were applications with four belts - primarily the 1966-67 California cars with PS, alt, A/C, and A.I.R.

FYI- I don't think your timing pointer will allow you to time the engine correctly with that damper. Joe pointed this out to me on another thread because I could not even get close to getting the timing right with an SFI damper. They fit but the mfrs. do not tell you the early BB Old pointers will not work. I ordered one of these (attached) and as soon as it cools off I'm going to change it replace the water pump with a FlowKooler 6 inch 1775. The other pictures of the 67 400E show the current pump as a 6 inch with 3 groove pulley. The pulleys, power steering pump are from a newer model ( 71-72) Olds not 67.

Thanks Joe! The motor is at the shop right now with the collection of about 12 pulleys and 2 aluminum water pumps. I will take some measurements the next time I'm there to determine what length water pumps I have.
Rob- As for the timing marker, we are not there just yet. I need to get everything lined up with the pulleys and belts before I see if the timing marker is inappropriate or not. Thanks for the heads up however- if we run into timing issues when we fire it I will bring this up at that juncture.
Thanks to all for the input thus far!

Pointer and TDC!
Absolute TDC should've been determined and pointer made and verification of TDC at the ATI super damper, before the cylinder heads are/were installed!!!

^^^THIS, though it is also possible to use a piston stop that screws into the spark plug hole.

I check every single one I do, stock pieces or not.
