If you are breaking rockers, something is going on that needs to be investigated. I have never broken one with up to 350 lb valve spring pressure and even over .600 lift, so long as I grind the slot longer if necessary so there is enough travel without hitting the stand.

[QUOTE]^^^THIS! Reminds me of the Mopar featured in a recent issue of Hot Rod where they kept breaking rockers on #3 and #5 - because the pistons were put in wrong and the valve notches didn't line up with the valves correctly. /QUOTE]
God I hope not Joe, I've all the car bad news I can handle. The wives Traverse ate a flex plate. Attempted that repair today and put up the white flag about 9PM. Attended a surprise party for me Saturday and when I went to leave I had no brakes on the Silverado and of course the Olds issues. When I get to it I'll get one of those fiber optic cameras and check the pistons for clearance. 50 sucks so far.
Tex that's my ride. Looks good from a distance but not so much up close. I'd like to say it's a driver but it currently on hiatus.
Greg where were you in relation to the lot? Sorry, I couldn't remember who wanted to see my car. I may have talked to your wife about your car. Ask her if she remembers a big guy clean cut and an extra large fella with a messy mop of hair.
Pops1958 It was our honor, your Honor, for both myself and Jason to meet and talk to you and your lovely wife. If I need to bury a body I be sure not to call you. Remember yous din't see nutin. Jason's trying to talk me into Kansas but first he needs to talk me off the ledge. Told him to make me an offer on the 442, his reply was "knock it off". PS the beer was good it was my first one in months. You were right about the food too, it was awful and the service was just as disappointing.
NJ Cutlass thanks I'll let you know how I make out.

Yes. I did see your car Zeeke. I saw it out front. Mine was in the back of the hotel. It was in class 10B. I did get it judged afterall. Got a 1st place, surprised at that, it's obviously not "correct".

The Olds has a lot of valve to piston clearance and no notches in the pistons. You can check the actual clearance using a light valve spring and seeing what the clearance is at overlap, at or near TDC, which is where the valves would hit.

I had tons of fun out there, didn't care about the weather at all, met lots of good people, talked with all the 66 folks I could find, spent lots of money, took lots of pictures, got tons of ideas and had a great time. I'll be in Wichita next year, maybe with my 442, hopefully it'll be ready to awaken from it's 20 year hibernation. First time ever east of the Mississippi NOT in a big rig, lol.

Hello all,
This was the first OCA Nationals I have attended. I used to go to the Performance Nationals the Gem City Rockets used to host every year in Middletown, Ohio, but they have not put on that event in years. Not even sure if that club is still around. I to was not worried whether it rained or not and had a great time. Finally got to meet some of the people I have been talking to online. It's always great to put a face to a name and everyone was extremely helpful. I was hoping to meet some more of the people from CO, but we did not get into Gettysburg until almost 7 pm Thursday evening. My wife attended the Nationals with me. While the Nationals was not her favorite thing to attend, she said she had a good time as well. I did spend too much money, but I did find some good deals. Plus it's always great to make new friends! Thanks to everyone who made us feel welcome and to the people who organized the event. Not sure if I will be able to attend the Wichita Nationals, it's almost 12 hours from Cincinnati. Although I saw Rick from Oklahoma City in Gettysburg. He said it was a 22 hour drive for him. So I'll have to wait to see if I can make it next year. Any idea where the 2020 Nationals will be? Thanks again!

It will be interesting to see how many cars show up at the 2019 Nationals in Wichita. That's far for any easterner to go (but not as far as ABQ). The closest major cities are Dallas (360 miles), Kansas City (200 miles), Oklahoma City, (160 miles), and Denver (520 miles).

As I understand, there were about 125 cars registered for the 2017 event in Albuquerque, while there were over 300 registrations for the 2018 event. I think it goes without saying that 2018 saw much better attendance than 2017, but that's to be expected. There are MANY more OCA members in the east than in the west and thus many more who live within a reasonable drive of Pennsylvania than do of New Mexico.

They still gave out the awards to outstanding cars though, which I thought was cool.
The nationals attendance was very good, and if some hadn't reacted to the rain it would have been even better. I pulled a couple trailers from the swap meet field for people concerned about the mud, which turned out to be very easy because it was not that muddy; though I did see one two wheel drive van with a trailer getting a tow.
We went to Falling Water and Kentuck **** on the way home: had a great time
