Finally a 442 4 me

On the buckets, I think it makes a difference to go with the ACI cushions. They seem to fit the best from what I have seen. The upholstery shop definitely likes them better. They did all the back seat foam construction themselves.

Wow, color is looking great with stripes, and seats too!! Congrats, you have to be crawling the walls with excitement.
The difference between a running/driving project car and a parked project car is huge. The cars that are the latter can be an insane amount of effort, as I have discovered with my H/O. Unless I'm retired, I'm not going to try doing another one anytime soon.

Thanks Luke!
I couldn’t make it to Homecoming, but I would like to have seen your 68. You have done a great job!
By the way, we’re you happy with your gauges after you had them installed? I just picked up a set of factory guages and need to have them refurbished.
Excited yes! but it is tempered when I think all the things left to do. Wow, there is a lot still to do. It won’t make nationals, but I should be able to drive it this fall.

I was on my way to John's shop today to take a look at your blue baby but I got sidetracked and had to meet with an insurance claims adjuster at the new house. (I'll explain later) Hoping to stop down tomorrow to take a peek.
Seats look really nice. Will the carpet be blue?

I'm very happy with my gauges. They were pricey but needed everything done to them (faces, lenses, internals). If yours are in better shape, the cost will be substantially lower. John and Tammy at Redline are outstanding in both quality and customer service.

Meanwhile back at the ranch: Dash repair and dying
I started a thread https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...-opinions.html on this, but a quick before during and after pics. Dyed the pieces today with SEM Satin Black.

Thanks Tom!
Home stretch, but a lot of work to go. Dash didn’t turn out too bad. Fortunately the wood grain will cover up the majority of the repairs so I didn’t get too concerned with making it perfect. There was a huge chunk of glue on the glove box door that I had a heck of time getting off.
How is your project coming?

Summer sneak peek
Every spring when the rumbles of muscle awake out slumber, I turn to my wife and say “one more spring”. I haven’t posted for a long time on this thread, but she is about ready to come home for her finishing touches and summer driving.

Thanks Eric, Luke, and Rick!!
Last year was a bummer on several fronts. Thinking 2019 is definitely going to be better. I cannot wait to sit in the seat and run down the road. Of all the steps, having the front end almost together really makes me feel this is close...

Very nice look to the front of the car Troy. Looking forward to seeing the completed product. Best of luck moving forward and I hope all is well with everything else. Now I just need to get my a** in gear and finish up mine too.

Thanks All!!
It sure is purty! The plan is to bring her home in three weeks. The Mrs has some health issues last year that kept us fairly occupied. I think we are past that now, and should be an enjoyable summer.
I had to swollow some of my pride, and have more work done at the shop, but that’s life. I’ll finish out the interior and do a few details, and we should be good to go.

SSI Clean up
Since it’s about time for her to finally rest on all 4’s, it’s time to polish up and repaint her shoes. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to paint first and then polish the chrome or polish the crome then paint. I opted to go ahead and polish, I can give it a final hand polish after paint. I had seen some good reviews
on this polish, so I decided to try it.

Prior to polishing. (I hope the pics do the process justice, as there is a very noticeable difference.)
Coat with Mothers polish
Use one of my favorite tools. Good old Mr. Dremel. 15 seemed to be the best setting. Here is what the pads look like after one pass.

Wow, Is that grey???
After sever recommendations, I ordered a couple of cans of Eastwood’s Satin Black Wheel paint.
I started painting and....Wow this looks grey..I go back and look at the cap, the cap looks more grey than black....Ugh...I go ahead and put a coupe of coats on, maybe it will darken a little, and here it is...
Now being one to try check everything, I thought let’s paint a strip on the inside of the rim and see how it compares. Now, I shot this inbetween the 12 and the D over to the valve stem hole. It really is a pretty good match. Must be the fluorescent lights.

Special Thanks to the Mrs.
You know you have a loving wife, when she tapes all the chrome on a set of SSI’s so I can keep scuffing and painting.
Not only that but she did a really good job!!!!
