The more I see of the 98s' from 65-68, the more I would like to get one. Still working on the 67 Delmont 425, lots of little things, that are more an aggravation than anything. slow and steady wins the race(?). The thing about the 98s' is they were mostly bought by older folks and got good care, so not as big a headache.

63 Original Darksider
I finally got a baseline at the new 1/8 mile track. Finished with a 7.56@89.59 with a 1.66 60' and 5500 shifts. Started off with a 7.63@87.7 and a 1.65 sixty when I shifted lower at 5100.

Yes sir , it is actually a pretty rough car with it's only destiny to be glorified at the drag strip in the honor of past SD cars. It's a budget 455 I had already that previously performed track duty for two years in my red 70 Cutlass wagon here on a another thread.

Charlie, I made a few stops on the way home. I loved the visit to Don Garlits Museum. I had always wanted to see it, and glad I did. I enjoyed the building with the drag racing stuff, most. There was even a couple dragsters with Olds engines. I spent some $$ on T-shirts and trinkets.
I had a tour of Ross Racing Engines on Monday. Tony is a smart dude and very capable of building any "old" engine or fabricating parts. I was very impressed with how clean and organized the shop was. His drag racing background certainly helps. He even has original appearing aluminum heads for my '57 Olds that make more power.

Tire size? 64 Starfire
Hello Darksiders,
I posted a few weeks ago on the newbie thread and have spent some time taking inventory of my car and getting the 394 running again. Wondering if you could help me out with tire sizing, as I'm going to be replacing the rotten 215/60 specs currently on the factory 15" mags. Looking at going with a white walled 225/75, curious what your opinion is and if anyone is running the same size on their big car? Bic car, big tire right? Pics would be immensely helpful to see the actual size in the wheel-well. Thanks!

62 Starfire newbie
I'm wondering where I can find info about fitting an engine and trans into my 62 Starfire. I'd like to put a 350-400cu engine and a 700 trans into the car and am looking for info on engine mounts, transmounts, etc, etc, all the usual suspects. Will appreciate any and all info and sources. Thanks, Mendo

Go to the main page . (forums)
Select the category that your question best fits into . (large Oldsmobiles)
At the top of that page is a blue "button" titled "New Thread" .
Hit that , and start typing . You must enter a title as well as the text .
You may also save yourself some trouble by using the "search" feature at the top of each page .
Others have done the conversion you talk about . But there are no pre-made mounts or "kits" that I know of .
Personally , I think a 350 is too small to power a Starfire . A 455 would be a better choice .
There are a couple of companies that can adapt a 700R4 ,etc. to your original 394 engine . Google , Ross Racing Engines or Tanson Enterprises .

The 394 is a good engine. Tony at Ross Racing Engines has experience and answers to what you are wanting to do. Adapting a different transmission will be a lot less trouble than changing both engine and transmission.

Wondering if anyone knows of a source for power brake booster rebuild kits? 64 Starfire with (I assume) the Delco-Moraine booster (2 bolts). Do any other GM models use this booster? I have tried Fusick, Rockauto, Advance, Ebay... no luck. Also tried searching older threads on here and all the suggestions are now DOA. Man, compared to the Mopar B-bodies I am used to, it is TOUGH to source parts for these cars.

Rather than a kit just get it rebuilt:

Have any of the big Olds owners here replaced their A-6 air conditioning compressors with the S-6 newer style? If so how did you do it and what were the results, also were you able to find the compressor with a dual groove pulley?

What a great forum! I hope I can join the Darksiders. I have two 1968 Ninety Eights in my garage. I bought the Holiday Coupe off of this site and restored it with my sons... now about to restore the LS Royale. I'm pretty passionate about these cars. My sons and their buddies marvel at the number of ashtrays and lighters, the 8-track players, the trunk space and the fact the engine has 7.5L (they always ask what does 455 mean?) I explain that while new cars are faster, stop better, handle better, require less wrenching, run cleaner, get better fuel economy than any muscle car of the day... nothing you can buy today RIDES better than these C bodies! 1968 Delta 88
I'm thinking about picking up a 1968 Delta 88 just for the 455 and testing the water to see if anyone can use some parts...

64 Starfire booster issues
Hi all, wondering if someone can give me some guidance. I posted above about needing my brake booster rebuilt on my 64 Starfire. I sent my Delco-Moraine unit to Booster Dewey for rebuild, which I assumed I would receive the same unit back, as he told me on the phone he didn't have any "on the shelf" for exchange. Imagine my surprise when I got back an 8 1/2" Bendix unit (no idea what for, F85 maybe??), instead of the unit I sent in. Now I am kicking myself for not taking pics of the original, because I'm paranoid that it got misplaced or thrown out, and I CANNOT find a stock picture of a 64 Moraine unit on the internet. The weird part is that it bolts to the firewall with 6 bolts instead of 4, and I can't for the life of me remember whether this was a separate bracket or just how the booster mounted up. See pic attached. If anyone has a 64 full-size with the Moraine booster, would you be able to provide a pic or at least tell me if the 6 bolt mounting is straight to the booster or whether there is an intermediary bracket in between? I left Dewey a message on Friday afternoon, I am waiting for a call back. Super disappointed, as this is the only thing hanging my car up from getting back on the road. Thanks much.
#354
Gopar, Booster Dewey screwed up but I'd be surprised if he can't make it right. Can't speak for 64 but he did the Moraine booster from my 63, it only had four studs and mounted straight to the firewall with no bracket. Look in your FSM, it should show the correct mounting.

Don R., Thanks for the photos, very helpful. I have (had) the exact same unit except in 64 there was no metal "T" for the vacuum line, just a single plastic nipple on the left bump. I attached a pic of what was sent back to me, looks to be GM but no idea otherwise. I don't have an service manual to look (never needed them for wrenching), but the 6 bolt mounting must've been 64 only. I spoke with Steve a few hours ago, he is trying to figure out what happened. Will update when I know more.

Wheels
I should have said "they'll look good on my Starfire". Ones like these were on the last 62'Starfire that Mr.&Mrs. Cannon restored before he passed. What a beautiful car! I did see these wheels on a 41' Olds coupe that they restored and also on their 52' Olds 88 that they restored.
Mrs. Cannon is the lady that I bought all the 62' Startfire parts from.
