Mystery Steering Column, 1970's floor shift tilt
Hi All
I've got a friend who purchased a 1971 Cutlass that had this floor shift tilt column in it. She decided it wasn't right and replaced it with a column that was correct. She's asked me to see if I could sell this for her, but first I need to figure out what it came out of. I've looked at photos on ebay until my vision blurred, but still haven't found one that matches it. I believe the key issue is the little arm and loop for backdrive linkage. The blinker and tilt arm don't match and can be easily changed, so I ignored those. It appears to be the same length or very close to a 1972 Cutlass column. The wiring harness has 7 wires that match, but the three on the lower end are different colors. Here's some photos... anybody recognize this or have a suggestion what it might be out of? John

Thank you Scott, Joe. The little arm for the linkage has slightly different bends on the column I have compared to Scott's 1976 column. I don't know how hard it would be to change this out, or modify the arm if it doesn't exactly line up on a car. John

That arm is an integral part of the shift tube, so changing it out involves completely disassembling the column. An easier solution is to modify the rod that runs from this arm to the equalizer rod.

I have a tilt floor shift strg column from both a '76 Chevy Laguna and '75 H/O and the linkage arms do not look like the one on your mystery column. Also, the firewall mtg flanges do not have the same shape as yours. Otherwise, they look about the same. Not sure what you've got.
