Engine/4speed trans for a 65 delta 88
#2
Very few manual trans Deltas were built even though the 3 speed colum shift manual trans was listed as standard equipment in 65. The 4speed Muncie with long tailshaft was the other manual trans as optional and these were very scarce as well. All 65 Deltas came with a 425 engine.

Looks like an automatic to me, large brake pedal and an emergency brake pedal, I don't see a clutch pedal. Also looks like PRNDSL just above the steering column. I don't see a floor shifter or a hole for one.

Hey thanks Steve, your right. Would this be the switch pitch th400?

I hope you got my pm from a couple months ago too.

I don't "think", I know it's a BOP trans.
News to me.
Other than the fact that the early trans case isn't machined for a speedo drive adapter, the cases are the same. Be aware that to convert a non-switch pitch TH400, you not only need to swap the front pump and converter, you also need to install a plug with an 0.040" orifice in the pressure port that feeds the pump.
I did and thanks. No biggie, however.
Why is the 66 and 67 switch pitch more favored then the 65?
I would like to build a switch pitch in a 70's th400 case.
I hope you got my pm from a couple months ago too.

You will need a slide hammer and threaded adapter to get the pump out. You also need to partly disassemble the valve body to feed the solenoid wire through to the pump for the switch pitch. Also, having the old case will show you where the plug has to be installed in the new case. I'd just pull the whole thing. You'll want the switch pitch converter, at least as a core to exchange for a rebuilt. I got my rebuilt converter from Fatsco.
