Classic olds cars

I ran across these the other day and thought I'd share. There are some real amazing cars here, considering they were built from 1898 to 1908...ELECTRIC CARS!

1908 Olds Electric

1898 Olds Electric

1899 Olds Eectric

1899 Olds Electric Stan Hope

1899 Olds Electric Stan Hope driven by Ransom E Olds with his wife Ursula

1901 Oldsmobiles

Unknown year Olds Electric

I saw a program on Jay Leno's Baker Electric. It's amazing the technology was there over 100 years ago to make a usable automobile.

I am assuming that it is a true statement that Oldsmobile was a pioneer in the modern electric vehicles

I always felt electric cars would be predominant today if not for the big oil companies.
I feel they saw the electric car as its competition and had to bring it down through various means and at all costs.

Electric trolly cars and even bus lines of the last century suffered the same fate. Small communities were once full of them.

Hopefully...or not, the general public will once again warm to the idea of electric vehicles on a wide basis.

I read in Setting the Pace that early on, Oldsmobile wanted to sell electric cars. After a fire in their factory destroyed the electric vehicles they were forced to sell the Olds Runabout instead.
