Hello, been looking for a distributor for my 1969 olds 455 point style old school, i like it this way, anyway i know from 1964 to mid 1974 they all inter change 330 right up to the 455 looking for a 68-72 455 ive been told there's more advance in these, even though i do not run the advanced vacuum, the car gets out here and there not much only to the track about 6 times a year so i really don't care about the gas mileage at all !! ive seen these cardone ones on ebay, does anybody have any input on those, and is there really any difference really in the distributors if iam not even using the advance vacuum, there's one on ebay for a 425 HC rebuilt by cardone, iam thinking that should work just finer for my 455 what do ya all think ?? thanks john !!!

 

Whats wrong with the distributor you have? You can set your advance any way you want. Vacuum advance is a separate item all together, there are ways to work with it or without it. Most of the time its just for fuel economy and does not operate at full throttle.

 

nothing that i can tell, its a 1111042 distributor, this was for the original 400 that was in it, 1967 442 car, just thinking a 455 one would be better for it ??

Just a note, Lars recommends contacting him directly as his writings may be altered by others. He’s a good guy willing to help.

 

to do it right , you need to know your compression ratio, cam, carb specs.. They all need to all play together.. also you need your vacuum advance to run right on the street. for a mild cam it seems 46-48 Degs of total advance mechanical & vacuum works pretty good. What I am running in my 455 with 442 automatic cam. Get a timing light with rpm read out, you'll wonder why you ever lived without one before .
