Hello people, looking to build a solid running motor 461 or 486. need a recipe if you can help.

I have a running 461, Edelbrock heads, american racing heads, lunati cam 60803, 880 qfvs, th400 (will be changing to 2004r possibly) 308 gear changing to 373.

whats the recipe. pistons , rods , cam etc.

i know head work is a must. looking for 550hp plus. i want to run pump gas is this possible.

 

486?
American racing heads? I’m guessing headers.

You’ll need to enhance your heads, a roller Cam in the range of 240@.050 and at least a Performer intake, maybe even an RPM.
A good modern piston and ring pack will help as well.

cutlassEFI sorry for typos, yes american racing headers. my current piston are speed pro L2323f .030 over i only have about 150 psi on a cold crank. so probley a low comp piston or wrong cam?

whats needed? i understand u sale cams etc. do i need to up grade rods? also whats the head work is need and cost? funnuy you say roller cam i have a set of roller lifter i was thinking of using cam of a frinds boat (dont know if i should use in a fresh motor)
what comprssion should I have in a motor? to get 550

Beyond that, you'll need 10.25:1 or so. And buy a Wideband O2 so you can tune it correctly as well.
