W30 vrs W31 Camshaft
W30 vrs W31 Camshaft
I was sent a PM if I W30 camshaft would gain power in a W31. Good question. The answer is probably not that easy. Based on everything I've tested the easy answer is yes, duration is king. However, my assumption, and data, would mean that you would lose low end power/torque and gain power at the top end. However, you would most likely need to spin the engine higher to realize that gain. What would the average HP/TQ for the dyno pull be? Meaning would it show a higher average power and torque. The #5 heads (I will be flowing #6 heads this weekend I hope) flow about 210 CFM at stock lift (0.474"). According to AFR's equation the max power for that air flow is about 430ish (this assumes optimized intake, carb, headers, cam, etc). So the answer is probably yes, it's probably worth it. If you want to wait until next year, we plan to run small block testing and this is one of the things on our agenda to test. I don't expect to start that testing until 2026, when I finish this I will need a break.
