SpeedMaster Heads on sale

Typically they sell for $1,170 for the SET of heads but a Black Friday sale has them listed as $700 (brand new), fully assembled with springs and all.

Are they SpeedMaster heads at $700 worth the purchase? About $470 lower in price with Black Friday. Do they flow better than stock cast iron "C" heads?

I read somewhere the Pro Comp head which I believe is the Speedmaster flow tested in the 230 range in the .500 lift area, making it slightly better than a C head on the intake side.

Buy them as bare castings. The springs, valves, etc. are junk. Check the guides and have the heads reworked and you will have something. I'd run the C heads before running these out of the box.

Who is running this sale?

As mentioned, you're better off buying bare castings and installing better springs and valves. Ive heard people complain that the valve guides are for **** too.

Bernard Mondello sells them completely assembled with premium parts and machine work.
These castings are almost identical to the Gen I Edelbrocks, and flow slightly better than a stock C head, plus they're alot lighter. You can also have porting and additional valve work done to increase flow.

Jegs has the bare castings for $380 per head.

Speedmaster website has them for $228 a head bare. Pretty much giving them away.

Is Speedmaster coming out with a new head and dumping the old one? Curious as to why the price suddenly dropped. Any rumors floating around?

In comparison to the Pontiac heads they offer, for instance, the Olds have the old style cast chambers as opposed to the newer heart shaped CNC chambers on the Pontiac head. I could see them offering a new head with these newer chambers, but they are significantly more expensive at $1800 a pair vs $1150.

The drop in price for the Olds heads to $700 was their annual black Friday sale, nothing more.
