Rocker arm problem
Rocker arm problem
I have a C head that has 7/16 screw in studs and pads have been milled down for guid plates and push rob holes opened up to .562 my problem is with comp sbf 1.6 rockers the push rod is really close to side of push rod hole closest to rocker stud side but with a erson 1.6 sbf push rod it is centered in the hole any suggestions or rocker arm part number that people normally use with this set up
You need an adjustable "pushrod" checker. They can be made from an old pushrod and all-thread but easier to just buy one. I would think you'd need one that covers 10" +/-

You need to measure length you need, not go by some number someone came up with, way too many variables.
And sbf rockers give fantastic geometry with Olds, atleast on my setup. Really, really narrow mark and by luck almost middle of stem.

I used adjustable push rod to get pushrod in a good travel area on valve tip that's all good just with a comp rocker the pushrod is close to the pushrod hole and with a old erson rocker it is centered up in the hole they are sbf rockers and I was trying to use 7/16 stud and a 3/8 pushrod if possible
with the comp rocker pushrod is close to head with 5/16 comp cam adjustable checker pushrod but with a erson sbf 1.6 3/8s rocker arm the pushrod is centered in pushrod hole with the comp rocker even being close I understand it will work but if there is a rocker out there that will center the pushrod up in the hole I would use it maybe just being picky but to me it looks better centered up
the two different rockers take slightly different pushrod lengths comp is like a 9.250 and the erson is 9.350 pushrod checker is 5/16
you can look at rock at the bottom of rockers and see the difference from pushrod cup to center of stud hole is different it's not a pushrod length issue
Hmm.. I have Comp Cams 1632-rockers on 350-based build. Geometry is spot on. Indeed the pushrods dont come out straight, but neither they hit the bores on heads. Didnt give too much thought to that. Look small-block Mopar with rollers and you feel perfectly fine, they have pretty odd angle from what ive seen, and they run them fine.
But if you feel better with ersons, just buy them. Cant help more.

OP Are these roller tip or full roller rockers?
Unfortunately that’s not entirely correct. The 5016 and 5017 were really designed for the Edelbrock head or any head with +100 length valves. Otherwise the rocker will not have the correct geometry and or will sit too low and interfere with the shoulder of the rocker stud.

In most cases it's the poly locks that don't clear the stock height valve covers, so in some cases you'll need to possibly modify a baffle and nothing more!
we've sold hundreds of these for various combinations with lots of feedback, and this is what we've been told many times...
We do also sell the finest in valve cover sealing technology, that's just a bit taller than stock and doesn't raise the valve covers so much they interfere with accessories!

So, Mark, I was right after all....

Gene had said in an earlier thread that he had 2.125 valves, and I remember how much I looked for 2.125 valves before, and I remembered that they were all +.100 over the stock Edelbrock valve lengths, only available from SI valves off the shelf and I knew the 5016 and 5017 should fit correctly.
If he had Batten heads, they use small Block Chevy +.100 length valves....
Gene, I would go with Bernard and his specialty Harland Sharp rocker arms, he is a good guy and those are a good product.
