Recommended intake manifold gasket
Recommended intake manifold gasket
Hi gentleman! I have a 64 F85 with a 455 that’s developed an intake oil leak in the right rear corner. It’s an RPM Air Gap manifold. What would be the best gasket to use, stock style or after market? I haven’t taken it apart yet so I don’t what was used. I wasn’t sure if the stock type gasket would fit under that kind of intake. Thanks for all your help.
I agree that the stock, steel-shim intake manifold gasket would be a poor choice.
I got a gasket from Edelbrock and it didn't leak. I figured they would know what worked well for their manifold.

Mahle MS20094 will work great for you, depending on if your heads are clean, not pitted around the water jacket ports, etc,
These have Silicone beads around all the openings for increased sealing. I would use a light coat of Ultra Grey silicone on the plain side of the gaskets, and then use the Ultra Grey for the China rails to seal the ends and the corners where the gaskets meet the China Rails.
Also, make sure you have enough engine breathers on the valve covers and add one to the oil fill tube as well for good measure.
I used some of their Batten intake gaskets and they are very nice quality.

I always use the FelPro gasket and cut out the turkey tray. Ditch the rubber end seals and use Permatex Right Stuff gasket maker:

I also use red RTV around the exhaust cross-over and blue RTV on the coolant passages. Doing it this way I've never had a leak. I did have a leak using the turkey tray and the rubber end seals.
