I find this thread very enlightening and am interested to see how this turns out. Although I can't offer much help to Fastolds, I thought I'd throw my 1 1/2 cents in. My brother and I run a 75 Cutlass at the local strip in Denver. We have about the same setup, Olds 461 cu in. with a 850 Q jet I built and modified, TH400 and 4.10 gear. Our Cutlass runs 12.80 @105mph with 1.76 60 ft times. I don't think that's too bad based on the fact our track elevation is usually around 8000 feet.
Welcome to the site and please stick around. That is a pretty good combo that you and your brother have.
Thanks. I plan on being involved on this board a little more. My dad is getting up there in age and he owns a 1931 Olds 2 dr coupe, 1954 S88, and 1959 98 2dr coupe so I end up being his "mechanic". That keeps me busy in addition to working on my Cutlass racecar and 1970 Cutlass convertible.
Also, I don't think any mention of vehicle weight has been discussed. For every 100 pounds you can lose, the ET will drop by 1-10th of a second. Elevation is also a pertinent factor. I'm trying to generalize some of these ideas, but the real fine tuning will come into play later in the game. Chassis dyno time is roughly $500.00 a day give or take. To put this into perspective, think about this: would you buy a part for $500.00 that would give you another 40 horsepower? I know I would, especially given the amount invested in the car already. You see, that is the difference of winning and losing in class racing. Searching for 1/10ths is expensive, searching for 1/100ths is REAL EXPENSIVE!!! I always preach that you can read about combinations that are proven to work a WHOLE lot cheaper than just throwing money at the parts suppliers.
Picked up car after having the cutouts put on exhaust and the 3:89 gear from the 3:50
I made a quick test drive. It revs to 5000 rpm in each gear so fast I hope I didn't make a mistake going that far. I don't exactly know what I was running through the traps at as the old tach jumped all over. I learn the hard way. Now the SS Mickeys will need to be replaced with slicks. More money......

I will be getting the car ready for BOP day at Cordova on 10/10. Have the new Quick Fuel carb ready to bolt on that was built to my cars specs and prerun by them, getting some slicks to try and will be cutting the valve cover for PVC valve. I think that covers it. OH and will be cutting the hole in my hood for the open top K&N air cleaner with spacer I hope to get yet.
Made some jetting changes and other items then went back to Cordova. Track was wet so they wouldn't allow 1/4 mile runs but in the 1/8 mile I ran back to back 8.04 which is roughly .2 faster than my previous run on BOP day. The 60' is around .1 something faster at around 1.84 We are certainly getting down to where I expected the car to run when I built it. Around 12.4 is my happy place..... then I am done messing with it. Spent over $3000 since I got it out of storage which puts me up around $26,000 in this thing. I haven't decided to keep it or sell it at this point since I don't drive it but in reality, I would never get even close to half what I have in it. Oh well, that's what hobbies are for.
Did you run in the trophy class at the bop race ??? i think i lost to you lol. car looks familiar. We started the season running 13.09 and ended with a 12.62 with some minor changes and alot of wheel time. currently would love to get it to dip into the 12.4 12.3 range as well. but i should be able to get there with some minor things i got in mind. Im running a 355 olds.

I did run in trophy. Won 1st round because the other car red lighted. 2nd round I won, 3rd round lost as I was off. Dial in was 12.78 and ran a 12.8. Let off at the end and it hurt me.
hahaha yeah i redlit lol. That was me. It turned out to be a crappy day had to run to the winners circle speed shop to buy a neutral safety switch and only had one time run by the time i got back. the car ran within range but i was a little too jumpy at the line .
Well, ran a 12.63 at 108 mph. I couldn't load the stall because brakes would not hold the car so gonna fix that. I am hoping for 12.4 before I consider changing stall to a 3000.
Ran at BOP day and although started our rough, we did manage to squeak out a few 12.3 passes so I couldn't be more happy. Now to get that stall changed to see if we can get??
