I too would be interested in seeing more Phillips Olds racing pics if anyone has any.

I am finally just about finished with my many, many year restoration project on my 69 Olds 442 W30 convertible. Not knowing much about my cars history, and not having any original documentation, I recently embarked on tracking down previous owners to see what I can find out. Amazingly I was able to get a hold of the previous 2 owners after owning the car for 23 years. The oldest owner told me he bought the car from the Phillips Olds dealership in Virginia Beach back in '73. He said it was sold 'as is' since it had some damage and the engine was blown. He said it was owned by one of the mechanics that worked at the dealership and who lost his license driving the car.

After seeing these pics of Phillips Olds cars at the strip I'm now wondering if my car could have been raced there as well and maybe explain why it was sold damaged and with a blown engine. My profile pic should be what the car looked like back then except with light blue hood stripes instead of the dark blue I had put on there. Anyone possibly have any info?

Probably a long shot, but Ray Hauser was a mechanic at Phillips Olds during that time period, he might remember the car. He owns the shop below:

Hauser Automotive
499 London Bridge Rd # 101, Virginia Beach, VA 23454
(757) 498-8316

Tell him Richard with the "Plum Crazy" W30 referred you to him, might help you, might hurt you...

Richard.

Thanks Richard. That actually was going to be one of my next steps. One of the previous posts mentioned Ray and that he was a mechanic at Phillips Olds and I was going to try and contact him, so thanks for the contact information.

Interestingly enough, when I bought the car 23 years ago while stationed down there in Norfolk VA, it had a 350 engine in it. I bought a 400 block and had it rebuilt by a local automotive shop. That shop was Hauser Automotive. Could Ray have rebuilt an engine for a car he owned and maybe raced 20+ years earlier?

Glad to help Bill. I think Ray has had a number of 442s over the years, its possible he could have owned yours, stranger things have happened. He said he almost owned my car as part of a 3 car package deal he was negotiating with a fellow named Ron Lockamy. Ron was a service manager for Phillips around the mid seventies I believe. Luckily for me, they couldn't come to terms. I'm not sure Ron would have knowledge of your car, but i can send you the last contact info for him if you want it. Good luck with the fact finding.

Richard..

Yes, that would be fantastic. Please PM me the contact info for Ron. Anyone I can talk to that worked there at Phillips Olds may know something or someone that may be able to help. Thanks.

1968 Winternationals, Pomona, California. A pair of 1949 "Futuramic" Oldsmobile wagons duke it out in U/Stock. Both cars also happen to share the same three digits in their comp numbers. It's the Chesrown "Hillbilly" in the far lane, complete with Ohio plates. The Ugly Stick got the jump in the near lane. It appears Team Ugly chose to foregone pleasing aesthetics in favor of mechanical prowess. Among the hordes of stockers these two definitely stand out. Photo by Eric Rickman for Hot Rod magazine.

I pretty much built the blue car from scratch. I bought the red one from Jeff Smith in Iowa. That pic is just the way I bought it. Don't look much like that anymore. I have won quiet a few races with it. Danny Lattimore 66 post) built the motor which has run 6.30s in the 1/8th......
