Oldsmobile Race Cars
#721
Back in the later sixties Bob MacDonald Chev Olds got a call from GM and told to stop sponsoring Oldsmobiles(red 66 4-4-2 in pics) even though they were having great success. They were told to sponsor Chev cars only. This from a mechanic who worked there.

Ok so maybe someone here can help me? A friend of mine just acquired a 1968 442 W-30 from someone he use to work with many years ago. It was a factory dealer sponsored race car from what the guy told him many years ago and the guy drove the car for the dealer. The dealership was Bruce Oldsmobile here in bethpage, ny. The car was raced at Hampton drag strip as well as ny national drag way. I'm not sure if it raced the eight mile at islip speedway. The guys name was Jim Davis and Jim bought the car from the dealership in the mid seventies. The car started life with a 400 four speed and in '69 the 400 was taken out for the 455 which is still in the car. Over the years he had the car repainted and Jim passed away sometime ago and we are looking for pictures or any info someone could give us about the car. My friend would like to restore the car back to the way it looked when it was raced back in '68. If anyone remembers this car or Jim please contact me either here or via email at jetta1bug@aol.com thanks,Marty

Couple of old racers
Here is aid from the 1977 AHRA Winternationals in Tuscon AZ. The 68 was Bob Voss. He ran for his class records that day. First a Olds I ever saw that would pull wheel stands every launch.
The 70 W-30 was my car, I was all of 17 at the time and had no idea what I had. It was a blast and I won my class, Bob won his too.

Hey Marty "Lowfunds ", you gotta keep digging and tell us more about that car. I also own a factory-dealer car and I feel you pain about locating info. Don't give up!!!! Look for old "Drag Times", any old "Drag News", etc. Hope you hit gold!!!!
