Why did bug poop out of the fly paper. Is your power to see the difference between a factory block and this aftermarket gone unseen? Did you think pouring fairy dust on a new casting that has thicker main webs as well as solid valley, four bolt main caps= the weight of a weak 455 factory block! Get real because this new after market block is by far the better block.Show me a 455 that can be bored to 4.40. As far as cost by the time you put band aids to keep your 455 in one piece on a all out build or just a very high performance you would be close to this new block cost. You do understand this engine obsoletes the 455 factory engines and the 425. It should outperform a 350 dx also. This is just the race apps. Now for the street how about the direct bolt of cad,bop,chevy gm transmissions and more power than you could ever use. I guess i am totally befuddled at the obvious boo hooing! There had to be a trade off on weight. I am jumping up and down that we have this choice available. I guess i am looking at this from a racers point of view. This also should make a mountain motor for the street.

That wasn't a criticism, just a statement of fact. Obviously the thicker webs and deck will add weight, as will reinforcements to make this block survive higher HP levels.

 

 

Anybody have a guess as to the max power this thing should be able to take?

 

It looked like two complainers getting there heads together. Joe it would only stand to reason the new block was heavier. I thought that would be a given. If we all could get some unobtainingum light weight unheard of metal even light than aluminum and titainum there would be guys not happy.All i am saying was why bring it up if it was a given. Some guys want everything free but they have to wish in one hand and poop in the other.

 

I would think this engine could in the right hands and this is a guess step into the 7's. I have nothing to back it up but Paul Tester took a nascar 350 block into the eights. Russel Hunt took a 350 nascar block into the 6's in a rail. This is a better block with way more cubes possible! Stands to reason.

 

I can't figure out for the life of me why anyone would have a complaint about the price or weight of this block. This is exactly what we have been wanting for as long as I can remember. First a solid block and now billet heads, I can't wait to see what comes next. I am completely re thinking my engine platform for the old turd. This stuff isn't cheap but, when you're trying to make Power nothing is. I'm as giddy as a school girl knowing that a durable 1000 hp N/A olds is now a real possibility!

X3! And 50 lbs isn't nothing. Use aluminum heads and make up for it.

 

That extra weight will be used for ballast to try and prevent the front end from going over backwards with all that power!!!!!!

I am definitely going to build one! I have a DX block and other stuff for sale to start a slush fund but I haven't even had one hit from anyone in here! Must be everyone is getting that new block!

 

You should list that stuff on ROP instead, there's usually a guy that's always looking for diesel blocks. I think this site would be a tough sale for something like that...too many paint dot and chalk mark guys here.

There are some of us here who race & still appreciate factory correct. Some of us even own both.


I see over on ROP that there is a long discussion on this block. Again thanks to John and Rocket Racing for this exciting new product.

 

It will be interesting to see what Mark cutlassefi and a customer who buys one of these Rocket Racing blocks come up with for a combo.

Is this Olds block as good as the new Pontiac block that's been out for awhile. As far a bore and stroke.

 

Bill at BTR is doing a couple, he says they are very nice. Someone said they are cast at the same place as the Dart blocks. I believe 600 cubic inches is max which makes sense being based off the stock architecture. Plus the Compacted Graphite Iron option should make them even stronger. With a set of the 400+ cfm billet head cores, won't mention the other guys heads, someone will make the most NA Horsepower and Torque ever made with an Olds V8. And yes we should consider this an Olds V8 considering stock parts will bolt in and on. Of course anyone doing that other than to make their W30 look correct is an idiot and wasting the potential of this block.

 

DAYUM, what a block !!!!! I have been away from cars and racing for many years, this block is exciting. Batten heads were the last great innovation I knew of before kids started coming along and money got tight. I have been learning a LOT from here since I joined, thanks to everyone.
One of sons sent me a text with a picture of some kinda"big block" he just received. Might be time for "ol Dad" to throw something together, to play with my kids.<--HUMOR Maybe I should look for a Vistacruiser body with A/C to drop one of these new blocks into ? It could be a real "sleeper".

Yes, pretty close. The IA II block says 4.400 max bore (same as RR block, which makes sense since they have the same bore spacing) and 4.750 max stroke (5.000 possible with clearancing). The RR block says 4.500 max stroke (BTR says 4.850 would be about max because of cam clearance).
