Mild low buck 350 build.

did this for a customer. He wanted it to look stock, make good power, with stock factory parts as much as I could . Had to make good vac for power brakes.

3:42 gear with stock converter.

Original 1.875” small valve heads pocket ported
66 Toronado pistons , small dish 9.8 comp 362”
403 rods
big block pan
A4 intake with plenum mods for 750 Holley vac sec
Thorton manifolds
comp 1442 rockers
flat tappet.500” 110 mid 220’s on both.
180 crank psi, runs on 89

Looks interesting, any power guess or Dyno runs?

I'm building something very similar right now for a customer. Main difference is a Performer intake and L2321f pistons.

Also curious on the power produced. Also interested in the timing curve for 89. I ran into pinging issues on 91 with 175 psi cranking compression and 9.6 to 1. It needed cold plugs and very limited part throttle timing to fix it. It did have about .070" piston to head which didn't help, assuming this one is 0 deck.

Interesting build Dale. How does the factory aluminum intake after modification compare to an earlier cast iron?

Did you use JB Weld to rebuild the plenum divider on the primaries and to fill the EGR holes in the plenum floor?

yes..on the JB. EGR holes were tapped for Allen head plugs first

the runner dimensions are the same as the iron intake. It does flow better because the transition into main runner is better.

Stock, it’s a real abrupt turn . It also got a 1” tall sq bore carb adapter.

No dyno time in the budget for this one. I would guess 360 to 370 and 425 on the TQ

no deck or head cutting…heck, didn’t even hone the mains . 😉 factory steel shims.

15 initial, 35 total…all in by about 2,500. Blocked crossovers in the manifold. It runs pretty cool .

My double align hone makes up for it. You will have about the same quench as my build, maybe even tighter. How much did you deck the block? Yeah, he should be fine with that tight quench. An adjustable vacuum advance should be all he needs to fine tune it.

Dale what was the reason for staying with the small intake valve?

“comp 1442 rockers”.

Look like Ford rail types, not 1442’s.

Just sayin’.😉

Nice, I'm surprised there's enough valve stem tip to accommodate the self aligning Ford rockers. I have a set of Ford Motorsport 1.6 Pedestals on my 403. Unless you're using a .050" drop lock for valve spring height?

some factory valves do have a short tip length which won’t work without some grinding on the rockers. A .250 tip is usually ok

to be clear, I still used guide plates on this one.
