455 piston ring thickness

1.)I see they have two thicknesses of rings for 455 pistons .....one is 5/64, 5/64, 3/16

2.) And the other is the more "Modern" 1/16, 1/16, and 3/16 inches/
What benefits and disadvantages concerning the two sizes assuming both pistons are forged and have same compression heights
thanks

Same answer as what's posted on ROP. You asked the same question there.

Your modern pistons will generally have thinner rings. Look at today's engines, like the LS engine, that run well over 100,000 miles, and how thin their rings are.

Correct but that's only part of it.
You have good cylinder wall strength/integrity, better materials and cleaner running engines that don't have an issue with fuel laden oil, as most EFI'd engines today only run in cold start mode for less than a minute.
