1968 Instrument Panel Pin Stripes
First off, I am having trouble locating the right stuff....Have any of you guys bought a whole roll of the white pinstripe for your dash and not used all of it? I'd gladly pay you tomorrow for a pinstripe today! :-) or visa versa.
As seen in this thread.

Tom,
I've got the rest of my roll but I'm hesitant to part with it. Let me get a pic of it and at least then you should be able to locate it. I'll try to do it tonight unless someone else gives you a source before then.

Hi Tom,
Found this info on the web:
The dash tape is one piece of tape with two stripes on it. You buy it on a roll in different colours and '68 uses black for gold or red interior and white for the other interior colours...It's called Double Stripes by Plastigard, a division of Crilaplastic, 36 feet long, PN PG922670 ...I have had this tape for a few years now for the '68 convert so I don't know if that brand is still available...It's a 1/8 stripe with a 1/8 space and a 1/16 stripe..
And when I went to the paint shop to get paint for my convert lo and behold, there across the counter was a cabinet full of packages of striping tape...Prostripe PN R42008CP by Sharpline Converting, Wichita KS(for '68 dash)...but it was in 150 foot rolls...I bought 1/4 inch tape for the '68 GT stripe at a hobby shop and it has been on Muskrat's car for over two years now...the original GT stripe was painted on...
Can someone please measure the stripes for me? Prostripe is easy to find. I just want to make sure I am getting the correct size. I no longer have my original stripe to compare.
Here's the chart. Looks like the R320 or R420.

Found it!
Oreilly Auto Parts had it. Pro stripe part number R32008, white, $5.99 plus tax. I'm going in, wish me luck. I'll post pics when I'm done. Thanks Mike and Tony.

I'm not following.
My dash stripe is a 1/32" "upper" stripe and a 1/16" (2/32") lower stripe with 1/16" (2/32") between them. That totals 5/32"
Mike's stripe (package) is 7/16" (14/32") Tom's (package) is 5/16" (10/32").
How does either one of those work?

And FWIW, 5/32" appears to be the correct width for the single GT side stripe.

Well crap...
Looks like we have some different pin stripes going here. Too late but I can always change them. I got excited and already put them on before I read the updated thread. They are a little tricky to do the turns. I ended up splitting the two stripes and then had to splice or match up the ends. Oh well...it looks decent, I think. WMachine, Mike and Tony Thanks for all your input. I am going to leave them on until they fall off.

When you say you split it, do you mean you put the upper and lower on separately? What is the total width you ended up with?
Regardless, it looks really good and does "look correct".

The stripe that I bought, is 1/16" stripe, with a 1/8" space then a 1/8" stripe. so the overall width is 5/16 of an inch.
The roll of striping has a masking tape type backing that you remove to place the stripe on your surface. The tape has a clear front that holds the two vinyl stripes parallel while applying and then it peels off after application leaving the two vinyl stripes. I started with about an 8 inch piece of the striping. I removed the masking tape backing then applied the stripe starting at the dash pad. I applied the tape vertically until the point where the turn starts. When I say I split the stripe, I then took a new razor blade and sliced the clear backing between the two stripes (start of the curve)for the rest of the length. I then worked the tape for the curve on the dash with the 1/8" side of the stripe. Then I worked the thinner (1/16") stripe around the curve. The thinner piece goes a shorter distance so I trimmed the ends flush with each other then matched a new piece to finish the run to the steering column. The blue masking tape is just to keep the damn keys from scratching the dash and tape.

Yeah, that is kind of an issue with these cars. Someone, I think on this board, had said they used clear packaging tape there, but I'm afraid that would get real sticky after a while. I tried a piece of clear static cling material, but it was too stiff and wouldn't make the turn and stay on. Maybe clear contact paper? Would that end up too sticky and make a mess?

Magnet?
How about that thin flexible magnetic material? Paint it black to match? You could even put a piece of the pinstripe across it. Remove it when you want it to look real pretty? Hmmmm I could go into business making them right?

Or just keep your ignition key alone with no key ring.

Just ignition key works the best, but then there is the worry of losing it, a key by itself is hard to keep track of, plus then you have to carry another set of keys with the trunk key and your house key on it. It shouldn't be this freakin' complicated!!!!

These were the original stripes on mine before I restored it. Apparently I didn't measure to the nearest 32nd of an inch but it sure was pretty close. The straight rule below that I used is only graduated in 16th's so its difficult to see exactly what the widths are but my upper stripe is a lot more than 1/32 and my lower is a lot more than 1/16. It appears to be about 11/32's total. I just went down and measured the new stripe I applied and it is indeed 7/16 total so mine is undersize by 3/32 of an inch. The stripe kit measures the total width of the two stripes and the gap between. The stripe is actually two stripes with a clear applicator on each side. You peel off the sticky side, apply the stripe and then peel the outer clear layer off. When you're done you end up with (theoretically) two separate stripes spaced equally. As Tom stated it VERY hard to make the 90 degree turns on the dash because the plastic applicator on the outside doesn't like to be as flexible as the stripes themselves. I had to do it twice and I still wasn't perfectly happy with it. I think I used painters tape to make the vertical and horizontal lines and then freehanded the 90's.
Mine is a 04D Lansing car and it appears to have a different spacing than Sam's so it leads me to believe they didn't necessarily use the exact same striping, even in the same plant

Mike, was your original stripe tape or paint? Your measure does look like 5/16" to me considering angles and all.
