Is anyone wrecking an Olds same as above. I am chasing a left hand Opera Light (it has a small crack in it and only half glows), I am trying to keep it original and don't want to really put LED lights in it. Cheers Mike

 

You can also use donor parts from 1983/84 Regency Brougham 4 doors. Too bad the Buick Park Avenue uses a shorter bulb or you could use it too.

 

Also if anyone has a genuine radio/cassette player for 1982 Olds I am chasing one as well Cheers

 

1984-85 Delta 88 Royale Brougham LS uses that style opera lamp as well.

 

Can you post a picture of what it should look like or the dash opening?
I knew someone who might have one if it is the not the ETR2000 series (Euro style 1.5DIN).

Brett, the 98 came in 2 trim lines - Regency and Regency Brougham. The lights you have are from the Regency and are located on the sail panel. They also aren't 'flourescent white' like the Regency Brougham, just regular incandescent that run off DC. Regency models had plain B pillars with no trim attached.

The Regency Brougham used longer lights framed by tall brushed stainless on the B Pillar. Also note the Regency Brougham had the 'Brougham' emblem on the sail panel. This fluorescent lighting also required a power inverter (located forward/upper DS rear quarter panel) to convert DC to AC.

No, I was just trying to post a picture of what Machwest is looking for in case someone scrolling through the thread sees it.

Machwest - These lights didn't really burn out all that often. Check and see if both are out or one is working. If one is working, obviously you need the light. But if both are out, there's a really good chance all you need is the power inverter to fix your problem. That happened on my 83 Regency Brougham and I had those lights out 2x before I realized they weren't the problem.

There's a small allen screw at the bottom of the trim bezel that has to be loosened (if you remove it don't lose it. Put it somewhere safe right away. Don't ask how I know about this). Access to the screw requires the front door to be open. Once that screw is loose you can swing the trim bezel out and lift the bezel up off the plastic base that holds it. The power inverter is on the drivers side of the trunk. You'll have to move the sound deadener panels to find it. Should be up to the left side of the trunk hinge. The inverter repair is covered in the Electrical Troubleshooting and Chassis Service manuals for the car.

Allan, I just fitted a new inverter and the right hand light is fine but the left hand looks like it has a crack and the bottom half and a small part at the top works cheers Mike
