Wanted: 72 Cutlass th350 Detent Cable
Hi All,
I'm still working on my detent cable issue. I thought i'd see if anyone has a spare to sell in case i can't fix mine.
I need a 1972 Cutlass detent cable that goes to the TH350 (the kind that mounts to the accelerator pedal inside the cabin).
Thanks,
Tony

I have an advance auto parts about 45 minutes away in Champlain, NY. And it's 15 dollars.
I just called them, they dont have it today, but they will on tuesday.
How did you find that on the advance website? What query did you use?

Of course part of the issue is unless you know the cross reference or that 2 of the cables listed will in fact work on a TH350 it wont show when you click exact fit on your 72 Cutlass S.
What I did when I bought mine was search for Detent Cable, then I looked at both ends to make sure they matched mine since there are 2 styles(@ Trans end) of dentent's for the TH350 and I checked the lenght in the specs and sure enough it was the 04210 cable and I can verify it fits. It does however fit tight as it could stand to be about 2 more + inches for an easier fit. It's pretty right along the fire wall and by tight I mean tight.

Probably same way I did when I bought mine a month ago from advance...type in "Detent Cable" and presto! LOL

I should be there on Tuesday, this is great because my detent cable has never worked! I always have to downshift into 'S' on the highway if I want some power.
Any other tips for installation? Maybe on removal of the old cable??

So after 3 hours of lying in a pool of blood and transmission fluid (wasnt sure which was which). Finally got the cable installed.
Why did it freeze in the first place? can any of you guess?
WELL, the cable was stuck in the sleeve, that was the first issue, but i'm guessing the previous owner slammed his foot on the gas so hard that it bent the tang that comes out of the transmission.
The tang was bent almost 30 degrees too far, which made it interfere with the casing and hence, not detent.
I spend 2 hours trying to re-bend that little tang, eventually, it was perfect, the new cable fit great. and with some minor adjustments, she downshifts when i slam the gas to the floor.
Interesting adventure, but at least the problem is solved.
