carburetor and exhaust manifolds needed 70' w30
Looking for 1970 442 W-30 ( automatic transmission ) correct carburetor and exhaust manifolds. My original passenger side exhaust manifold is most likely cracked and I have an exhaust leak. I just recently had a carburetor shop determine that my current carburetor is no longer functioning and it was replaced by one that works ( temporary fix ).
I'm OK with reproductions if anyone has anything they are willing to sell let me know.

Disregard the exhaust manifolds. They are both better than I thought with no cracks. On the passenger side the "Mr Gasket" paper gasket someone put on fell apart and was leaking from below. The drivers side had a metal gasket that didn't seal on the bottom and was leaking, plus all the bolts were loose.
I was told to get Remflex exhaust manifold gaskets....anyone have any experience with these ?
Still looking for carburetor. I just looked at the one they installed and it is part # 17057258 / 2376 / APY. I have no clue what that belongs to.

What did "they" do with your original carb? If it was a correct part # carb for your car there are several reputable places that can totally restore it back to working order without the expense of purchasing another. I hope they didnt scam you out of it?
Mike if you didn't get the original carb from the shop you should beat feet back there to get it. You may already know but the correct numbered carbs for W cars are very hard to find and very expensive ones you find them. Unless something mashed the carb body in an accident you can have the carb rebuilt as WTony said.

Agreed, get your original back if possible. barring that, this guy here makes pretty and correctly numbered carbs. He says he even removes the power piston from '70 W31 carbs, as did the factory. A fine detail. It's a good option if THE EXACT correct factory car eludes you.

Thanks everyone for looking out for me....and your right, I did ask for the carburetor that "didn't work" back. If I hadn't asked it would no longer belong to me. I thought this to be a little strange as most places I've been to would automatically hand the old stuff back unless you declined the offer. I never got an explanation for it not working either which is doubly strange. I did some research and I think the carb they put on my car is originally from a 1977 Buick of some kind. For what it's worth it does seem to work better than the old carburetor for now. I was told by the carb shop to get my exhaust leak fixed and then bring the car back with a carburetor of my choosing and they would finish the fine tuning. They just couldn't hear the carb very well with the distracting exhaust leak, which I can understand. So, I have looked on eBay and at another place locally called Carbs Unlimited. I think I can find a decent rebuilt or reproduced carb with the number 7040258 on it. I think that's right ?

Here it is after the fix !
I took it to a park with my wife following in our other car. My son was with me and we stopped to get Smokey out for a walk. This is an "off leash" park where we live, very nice !
I've dealt with Carb Junkies in Atlanta before. 770-235-0775, Melissa and Jim are Very nice people and he does very good work. I trusted them to rebuild the carb on my 69 W30 convertible and it runs better than it ever did.

Thank you all for your advice ! I called Sparky and Carb Junkies and both were extremely helpful. I did get my carburetor back from the shop but had to wait for them to piece it back together. It is carburetor 7040253 and I sent some photos to Sparky and will be sending it to him to go through.
Also, I originally requested exhaust manifolds and when I removed them from the engine they were in great shape with no cracks. There was some pitting at the front but otherwise the original exhaust manifolds were worth keeping. I ended up powder coating with a high heat gray powder coat and they came out great. Heres a photo of the exhaust manifolds being heat cycled before powder coat. Thanks again for everyones help !

I've only got the shipping date from the Lansing Plant on April 28, 1970. The VIN is 344870M330049. Aside from other documentation that would tell me the build date can you tell by the VIN ? Here's the body tag...
The 04D indicates the vehicle was built the fourth week of April 1970. Take a look at this thread for known date codes of 7040258 carburetors: https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...uild-date.html
It still needs more data to make it useful, but I would think one of the 0920 (Thurs, 4-2-70) dated carburetors would be perfect for your car.

I also delt with Melissa and she found an original carb for my 69 W-30. Great service,Reasonable and Honest. If they don't have one they will fine one if possible. Good Luck
I know someone with the 0920 dated carb,and another one with 0710.
If you have the original 979 distributor,is it dated 0A8? I've never seen a 979 ditributor dated later than that,but there's always a chance.

I don't have the original distributor either. Those are the only items missing from this car. I am currently working with Vader and Ron from the forum...they both have 7040258's for sale and both are restored. What is a current price for a restored 7040258 ? So far there is a 400.00 price difference between Vader and Ron's carburetors. Haven't seen Vaders yet but Ron's is beautiful.

I have a 979 distributor dated A08 if you are interested. It's in my car still, works great and is in great condition. Distributor is ready to go, currently setup with Pertronix ignition. Let me know if interested. Probably want the going rate for it.
