400 turbo transmission yoke
400 turbo transmission yoke
I'm needing a 400 Turbo trans yoke. The yoke I'm looking for doesn't have any splines from the very end to appox. 1" inward. In other words, the splines don't start @ the end, they start appox. 1" from the end. I haven't seen one in a while but I know they make them. I'm not sure if it was an Olds deal or not,so I'm unsure of the application. It's the short yoke, appox. 6" long total.
Thanks
Mike

Have you tried your local driveshaft guy? The guy I use has boxes of trans yokes. If you can't find one locally let me know and I will ask my guy to dig around.
Out of curiosity what do you need it for? I mean I know what a trans yoke is for, I mean why do you need one without spooned for the first inch?

I have a short yoke stuck in the back of my trans right now just to fill the hole until I put it back in the car. It slides in until the yoke itself is up against the seal lip. I know it's a spicer part. I will see if it has a number on it tonight.

When your buddy did the trans did he change the out put shaft or use a truck tranny by chance? I had this same problem, the truck out put shaft will bottom out sooner with the yoke, not allowing it it's full travel it's supposed to have. The out put shaft should have been machined for this; an easy way to tell if it is a truck out put shaft is if it has a threaded hole in the center, as trucks have a fixed bolted yolk. You should be able to slide the yolk about 7/8" to 1" worth of slack before it bolts to your rear end or else it'll bind your driveline. Don't cut your yolk, I ruined a brand new 90$ spicer before I found out all this
Statti is right about the truck shafts. Keep an eye out for compatibility.
If everything regular style and the yoke is just plain too long, I'd trim it.
Also, some bolt in styles will leak everywhere because of the hole.
Statti, how did the spicer yoke get ruined? People on here can learn from our mistakes.

I cut mine too short and then did not have the proper amount of spine engaged. It technically still worked but would have ruined the tranny over time. Trucks had some trannies with the BOP as with the 350 diesel, also some shops will replace the output shaft for a truck in an existing BOP trans because they are plentifull

I have run across this before. most good drive shaft shops use the one with the splines all the way to the end like you have and then they cut the splines out about an inch in like the originals. they have done that for me a couple of time now.
