I'm looking for a 5.072" short shaft water pump for my 1972 W30, casting 408328.

Are you sure about that part number? The reference I'm looking at says that's correct for 71-72 non-W30. But for the W30 or 3.73 rear end, non-AC would be 408329. For heavy duty cooling or AC application including W30 would be 407536. I'm looking at the Supercars unlimited "by the numbers" book. John

Your car is non-AC, correct? If so, then you need the 5.6” shaft water pump not 5.072"
.

I have several new/remfg. Carquest 5.1" water pumps that I bought 30+ years ago and never used. Cast and stamped impellers, not that casting number, however.

As I noted in your other thread, every single 1972 W30 without A/C (which is all of them) came with a 5.6" pump. Once again, do NOT rely on third party information like that from the web. I get my info from factory literature.

ALL 1972 W30's came without AC! Any 1972 W30 with AC was added after the car was built at the factory. (This does not apply to Hurst/Olds)

Specs book specifically calls it out on the W30 option.

And STILL a 5.6" water pump, which is the pertinent part of this.

I question if quoting a 1971 reference is pertinent when the OP is asking about a 1972.

That was a typo on my part. Should have said 1972. In any case, 71 and 72 are the same. 5.6" on all 1972 and all 1971 w/o A/C. Same P/N, same casting number.

Sure, sorry I was blunt about it. It's a pet peeve of mine when people talk about 72 W30's and AC.
