1971 Cutlass Waterpump

Looking for a waterpump (or even just an impeller) for a 1971 Cutlass w/ 350 and no A/C. The casting number is 408328, and the hub height is around 5.1". I have the original casting, and I even bought a rebuild kit from John Plaskan, but I broke the impeller today while trying to press out the shaft.

To promote disassembly of your water pump I would recommend soaking the pump in a bucket of Evaporust for several days, or at the very least, spray it well with Deep Creep, seal it in a plastic bag, and let it marinate for several days. The pre-soak makes a world of difference during break-down. Make sure you have clean and lubricated parts before reassembly. Happy Motoring!

Thanks for posting that. A few years ago I attempted to remove an original closed impeller from a '67 400 engine water pump and stopped because it looked like the impeller would break before coming loose.

I ended up purchasing a new pump for a 1969, along with a lower radiator hose for a '69 and a 1 3/4 to 1 1/2 hose reducer (Gates 26391).
