WTB: BOP Engineering Alternator bracket for 455
I am having a hard time with the unbalanced look of accessories on my 455. I don't plan on ever having A/C and have both alternator and p/s pump on the same side.
Before I buy new I just wanted to see if anyone happened to have the BOP relocating bracket as found here: http://www.bopengineering.com/alternator_kit_b.shtml
Thanks!
Jeff

IDK if you know but if an olds didnt have AC the alt was put on the passenger side. I think the unbalanced look you comment on is from the alt on the drivers side w no AC comp on the pass side. I woul d contact scott oldspackrat on this site or john 2blu442 and see if they have the pass side alt brakct set up.
Ill see if i have a pic of mine...

Then it’s just a matter of bolting on the correct water pump, pulleys, and mounting brackets to move the alternator to the passenger side. Pretty easy, try to get everything from the same car, or make sure the pulleys have the the correct code so everything lines up.

If I'm not mistaken you do not need to change all the brackets and pulleys. The water pump decides which pulleys you use. I have the passenger side alternator mounting brackets, all 3 pieces. Where are you located also?

I think I have BOP alternator bracket and spacers somewhere in my garage. I replaced it with a CVF racing bracket. If you are still interested I can look for it this weekend.
CVF has a really nice alternator bracket that's much better quality than BOP.
It's in the picture.

I have the BOP brackets, it's a simple and clean installation but I'm not crazy about the design. It only uses two long bolts for mounting and they are spaced too close and too high together. I've snapped a bolt three times over the years, thankfully the alternator stays in place, but it's only hanging on with one bolt! Not good. I'm planning on modifying the setup with a brace that connects to one of my no longer used fuel pump bolts. That CVF setup above looks far superior for strength. The BOP sits much lower than the CVF, bolts to the front of the head below the valve cover which I like though

Agreed. The B.O.P. 2 bolt setup is useless. I too have snapped grade 8 bolts like pretzels. The CVF alternator bracket for Olds is gonna do the job... From a physics standpoint it makes far better sense, as the stress points are triangulated.

From an engineering standpoint, none of the aftermarket brackets are as good as OEM. Aluminum has only 1/3 the stiffness of steel, and significantly lower fatigue life. More to the point, the factory brackets have been engineered and tested to survive the worst case vibration environments possible for that part. There is no way any aftermarket bracket has had the same level of engineering and testing as the factory brackets. If you want bling, have the stock brackets chromed.
