1969 442 back bumper (again)

Well, after six months, TriCity just informed me that the core I gave them at Fall Carlisle is too far gone to replate. There's a substantial crack next to one of the bumper brackets that I didn't see. I've once again in the market for a 1969 442 core for my H/O. No, I don't want to put a repro on this car. Located in the northern VA area, but I'll be at Nationals this year.

Joe,
To broaden your search and speed up the process, a regular cutlass core can be used, Have TriCity graft in the cutouts from your H/O core onto the new core.

I had to do this when I had mine replated by Northstar. The core I sent had been replated once, which I was aware of. They said these 68-69s are too thin to do twice.
They happened to have a good Cutlass core onsite. I told them to go for it. You cannot see the graft under the triple show chrome. I can see it very faintly on the inside obviously not visible once on the car.

Clear coat the inside of the bumpers to prevent rust.

Yeah, I thought about doing that.

Not sure if the bumpers are the same for a 442 and standard Cutlass https://milwaukee.craigslist.org/pts...452814738.html

This has been posted for some time also, maybe a lead for an original rear bumper https://madison.craigslist.org/pts/d...451363245.html

Have the chrome stripped off and have the cracked section welded???
Maybe you can save the original bumper

TriCity would have done that had they thought it possible. The photos don't look pretty. I'll get it back to inspect firsthand this week.

Joe, I have one w/ rub strip slots. Might look strange on a Hurst car though, but thought I'd offer it up anyhow. I'm located in WA.

Thanks, but yeah I should have said no rub strip, no bumper guards, etc.

Joe, I have a couple cores in Oregon. I remember ones pretty wrinkled. I don't remember how the second looked, but if you'd consider shipping from the West Coast I'll get some pictures for you.

John, shoot me some photos of the better one. I'm off to Carlisle for the week tomorrow, but I'm not optimistic I'll find one there. Thanks.

I bought a 70 repo for my 70 SX and had them weighed and both weighed the same. Buy a unplated bumper and get it chromed.

I really don't want to use a repro on my H/O.

Joe, I put a repro on mine and still have the original 69 rear 442 bumper. There's no major damage, just the usual freckling and flaking behind it. There doesn't seem to be any thin spots. Take a look, and let me know.

PM Sent. I'm off to Carlisle in a few minutes, so I might not be online much for the rest of the week.

That was a rare option for those bumpers and yes, one of the 69 H/O's I've owned in the past came with one.

Yes, it was an available option. I just don't care for the look.
