Looking for A Big Block

Ok my fellow Olds Enthusiasts, I'm in somewhat in a pickle. My 64 Cutlass been in the shop for about 2 years now. It's been in their storage since then. My 350 started knocking and I took it to one of our local speed shops here in Chicago. They wanted 13,000 for a fresh 455. I wanted to get it done. Well, when the COVID became very ramped, I lost out on trying to chunk up the cash. I would like to grab it before they try to sell it. All I Wanted to do was just put a nice Olds 455 in. I really didn't understand at the time why so much when it was going to be just a stock 455? No Edelbrock intake, no aluminum heads, headers, etc... Just looking to be pointed in the right direction here. Shoot! I can put the engine in myself! I built the car! I'm having no luck on C.List, ebay or offer. Just would like to find a nice used 455 so I can build on it. If you guys have any suggestions, please comment or P.M. me. I put a lot of blood sweat and tears into this vehicle. For real. i can't

let it go like that!

There are plenty on E-bay. The very first one that comes up is in Chicago :

Not quite sure what is going on here ... is the mechanic trying to sell it because of a lien, i.e. money you owe them? Because if that's the case, I'd deal with that situation before you go engine shopping.

Looking for A Big Block

If you're looking to build your own engine, or have it done by someone else, I have numerous big block engine CORES; either 425 or 455. I have aftermarket forged pistons, cams, etc. I can ship via Fastenal. If interested, email me direct: drolds1@bellsouth.net. Thanks, Bob.

I talked to the shop owner today. He still has the car, and he is willing to work something out with me on the storage bill. So, I think I'm cool on that front.

I would get the storage bill taken care of before you get to far. That could affect your engine budget and the engine you choose.

Exactly, get the car back even if you need to have it towed home and stop bleeding cash. If you "built the car" and can install the motor yourself why was it in a shop in the first place?

Big block

I have a few 455's that are in different conditions, from a complete motor with less than 5K Mike's on it to ones that need to be rebuilt, I can build a motor for you if that is what you would like as well.
I am in the Detroit Metro area so not very far from you. Let me know if you are interested.
Thank you.

Do you have a 455 block from a 70 442, would be nice if it was a 4 speed.

I will check dates tomorrow, are you looking for a specific casting date as well? I can check on that too. As far as a 4spd crank I can machine the crank for the bearing so no big deal, I have a few cranks to choose from. Will let you know what I have tomorrow.

I believe I have read on here that some blocks have the casting for the clutch linkage and some do not.
