Needed - panel below rear window to trunk.

NEED HELP. Looking for a replacement panel that the rear window sits. This panel is spot welded to the package tray and is also part of the trunk edge that holds the weather stripping. I cant find and told the are no repros. A good rust free piece would be great. Or a lead of salvage yard who have this part.

The car is a 1969 Cutlass Supreme 2dr sedan/post car. Photos attached of part needed.

Thanks, Brad

We all need that panel.

Belden Speed makes pinchweld patch panels, but unfortunately not this one. I've been harping on him to produce these. More requests would demonstrate that there's a real market for this product.

I already called Blenden Speed and they said no one makes it. Hoping for anyone has a lead on good used piece. Looks like a lot of people are looking for the same thing. Found a fabricator guy that can make that piece, but wants $1000 for it. I will call Blenden Speed again and give them more push on making these.

That was my point. I was hoping that if Belden saw that there was enough interest from many people calling him, he'd START to make it.

I brought a '70 442 Post tub to Joe a few years ago, but believe that car is now completely gone.

Need help 1969 Cutlass

I have emailed Belden again today explaining that several people on the Oldsmobile forums need the tulip panel. They gave a long reason why they would not manufacture this part. In short, the original production numbers dont meet the investment in tooling costs.

But I am still unsuccessful in finding this part. Called many salvage yards, put ads in Craigslist and contacted people selling Olds parts on eBay and no luck. Someone here has one, but asking way too much money.

Does anyone have one at a reasonable price or a lead of someone or salvage yard who make have one? What I really need is the passenger side section I could use to slice in. Photo attached.

Thanks, Brad

You can repair that using por 15 epoxy putty ,some por 15 paint and some fiberglass mat.. check into that
since a new panel isn’t available. I have had excellent results using these products for over 20 years.
Its not the ideal solution but you won’t be sorry if done right. jmo.. good luck

NEED HELP! Tulip Panel needed.

Just want to say I am a SERIOUS BUYER. I have delt with too many flakes so far. People who send poor photos of rusted out panels that I have to judge from. No point responding back to people who flake out, not going to solve anything. I am writing this now as a blanket response to everyone. But not everyone is like this and had delt with some straight people who realize their panels where too far gone. Right now being disappointed is an under statement.

I am a SERIOUS BUYER! I you have something I can use and you are serious about selling or have a real lead on a part, PLEASE contact me. I have already contacted all the salvage yards at least twice from the same list that everyone sends me.

Below is the description of what I need. I will settle on with just a good section of what I need. That section is the passenger half. I was informed that this tulip panel is the same from a 68-72 Cutlass S.

Thanks, Brad

Breaking out spot welds, breaking the remnants of the spot welds, and cutting out such a panel is very time consuming and tedious work. I did try doing the "spot weld" thing roughly a decade ago. Not enough meat on the bone. Very few will pay for the actual work to get such a panel out. One of the hardest ones was removing a 68-69 Buick Skylark outer rear wheel house. Guy did pay a reasonable amount for the thing, but it took close to ten hours to remove outer rear Quarter skin and then outer wheel house properly. Then it took five more YEARS to finally sell the outer Quarter skin. Tabco? Wolf? JCWhitney??
Desert Valley and CTC. Might not be cheap, but perhaps they have it.

I am in need of this part as well. Any luck on some kind of replacement? It may be time consuming, but I am going to attempt to take strips of sheet metal and weld them in. The more horizontal section has a slight curve to it where the glass sits but think that I can form it in place as I tack it in. The vertical section is going to have to be a separate piece of metal as well and I'll end up butt welding the two sections together and grinding smooth. I'll let you know how it goes.

I found a part that was 3/4 good. The good sections are what I needed and going to cut out the bad sections and replace with good. I also had to change shops that was performing the work to someone who is more competent.

A decent (not even great) metal fabricator can make that area pretty easily. I did a 67 Lemans where it was almost entirely gone, not much metal left to copy. Not hard to do. Please don't do the ghetto fix with fiberglass, or JB! These cars deserve better!

Bought a Cutlass parts car for a grand to get that panel, cut the entire roof off car, it was the only rust free part of car. Sold most of the parts and almost broke even and still have drivetrain.

Unfortunately, that is not the same thing. The 66-67 cars have an exterior panel between the bottom of the rear window and the trunklid. This is the same as the configuration on the 1970-72 Supreme hardtops. In both cases this panel rusts out, and repros have been on the market for a number of years. This one is Goodmark.

The OP is asking about the panel INSIDE the rear window, under the package shelf. These are common on the 1968-72 Holiday Coupes and Sport Coupes. Every one of them is rusted out, and no one reproduces them. Chevelle and LeMans panels are NOT the same, as the rear windows are completely different.

I was thinking 68-72 but I was wrong. It still might help 66-67 owners. At least I did search.

I didn't think 68-69 interchanged with 70-72. If it works for a 69 how much are you asking for the non-rusted one?

Lots of

68-72 items are interchange able between GM A bodys..even some B bodies...
as far as I know ..these will work on 68-69 bodies...some minor alts may be required but have never heard that.. Just assume...as NOTHIN is ever easy.
Located in Lansing Michigan
$225 for best SC tulip pannel
All ferrous metal contains oxidation
SC panel has minimal

Other panel has 3/16 size hole..
$200 for that unit.. Trunk hinges attatched but if not needed will remove to lessen shipping

Trunk rods / window trim available.. All applications

I’m looking for this piece also, do you still have one? You’d think these would be available aftermarket by now.

Are you kidding me! Be careful and cut that out! Then use it as a pattern! There are shops that will make that part with a pattern. But if you cheap out it will be hard to find a replacement that is any good. Look at it this way it has to be replaced so cutting it out has to be done anyways. I also like the ideal someone said have it patched at a weld shop!
