Roof Replacement

So the body shop called today to tell me that my 1965 Cutlass is rusted and rotten beyond repair. What other cars can I look for that will have the same roof as my 1965 Cutlass hardtop? Thanks.

Olds,

The body is in great shape, however the roof is rusted through. It seems like at one point in time this car had a vinyl roof and the pervious owner just bondo/patched it back together. When the body shop started working on the roof and scrapping off the bondo, rust holes started appearing everywhere.

How much are you asking for the roof and do you have any pictures? Thank you.

Slwrde, don't take this the wrong way, but, look at the car body with an honest eye before you do anything. How good is the rest of it, and I mean like legitimate good, not just looks good, or "I bought it and I'm using it" good? Reason I ask is you can rebody, if you can find a good shell with no issues, and it will always be a better result than any body work 50 years after the fact. My 442, which is a stalled project, had patch panels put in, and I'm worried about what I will find when I get to it.

To answer your question, obviously 64-65 Olds. Same years Chevelle and Tempest, I would think.

Where are you located? Is this a hardtop or post car? I've got a roof from a post car, it had rust around the windshields but the top skin was good. Gerald in NorCal was parting out a solid car a while back, hardtop I believe. Location and shipping costs could make a huge difference so please ad this to your thread. John

Oops, I see you already said its a hardtop. If your in the Western states I'd check with Gerald. If I remember right his was a hardtop with a wrinkled quarter panel, and he needed parts for another car so he dismantled it.

Koda,
No offense taken. The guy doing the body work for my restoration owns his own business and has been restoring cars like these for years. He called me yesterday and ask if I would stop by to look over and talk about what he found on my car, so I did. He, my wife and I walk almost every inch of the car so that he could show us what need repaired and what was good to go. Everything in the car is solid, except for the roof. He started to sand some of the bondo off the roof and rust holes were appearing everywhere. It seems like at one point in time, this was a vinyl car and the previous owner just patched it up with bondo. Go figure. So now I am in search of a new roof. Thanks everyone for all of the help.
