Need a 386129 Thermostat Housing with 1 cast on it above part# for a 69 442 w/o air. The original one is corroded and would be hard to seal. Looking for one in good shape or NOS.
Here are a couple that I have.....both is nice condition as follows:
>The "as is" unit has some corrosion on the gasket surface - this could be flat sanded down and/or epoxied and sanded flat to fill in the low spots
>NOTE the differences in the two housings - The black housing has a different transition/shape at the base of the bypass hose area VS. the other housing. It's more shaped/squared off. BOTH are #1 castings and 386129.
Also - the "as is" housing has what is probably a "hose stop" protrusion cast into the outside of the housing while the black housing does not.
>The black housing has been beadblasted and has a light coat of epoxy primer on it.
>Internally, the "as is" housing has a slightly eroded line in the outlet....running up and down the housing at the bottom of the inside of the outlet. The black housing is very nice inside with not much erosion in various spots. I can beadblast the inside of the "as is" housing if you want to see what it will look like inside with further cleaning.
>As far as the external, what's-visible-when-installed surfaces go....
-The "as is" housing has a slight casting texture to it and is very nice
-The black housing is a smooth cast finish
The black one looks like the one that was original to the car (with the #1 on the right hand side). 2 questions about the back one. Is the part# under the "1" 386129? Is the gasket surface ready to go or will it need some smoothing?
Yes it is (as I said in my first posting above)......386129.
As far as the gasket surface....it looks very nice and I have NOT flat sanded it or done any filling, etc to it...it's "as is" after beadblasting/priming. If you want I can give it a light flat sanding and take a pic. Probably a good idea to give any of these thermo housings a light flat sanding just to check. The second to the last pic above is the gasket surface on the black housing.
